MG MGB GT V8 Factory Originals Technical - DAYTON wire wheels

Looking for information on these. I really would like to use them.
The local distributor (the Healey factory) didn't know much about applications to MGBV8's (didn't think they would fit) and mentioned a waiting period of about 3 months, plus a price of about $3500 Australian for hubs, spinners and 4 wheels (I actualy want 5).
I harbour suspisons that he has a fairly heafty mark up as well, and since I would have to wait 3 months for them to be shipped, and the Healey Guy isn't too sure if they would fit anyway. Then, if they would fit, I might as well buy them from some one trustworthy in America, and likly save about a grand.
D480 72 spokes, 15 by 6 with the 4 bolt adapter hub,
the one with the concertina shape at the back so the spline will never wear.
The current wheels are performace minilite replicas (ultralight) 15 by 6 with a 24p. Using michelin 95 by 60 xm-1's

I suppose you've contacted Dayton directly about the fitment, if not that's the first place I'd go. You have to know for sure if they'll fit before you spend that kind of money. http://www.daytonwirewheels.com/
I would think that you might well be looking at clearance problems in the rear with the bolt on adaptors and the disc wheel axle. Even with a rim lace wheel, they will stick out pretty far, about the same or more so than stock wires on the same axle. It would be fairly easy to tell if you know someone with a wire wheel TR6, the adaptors should fit a B and allow you to test the fit of that wheel in the rear. The price doesn't seem too far out, the Dayton website shows prices for that type of chrome/stainless wheel at over $500 US per wheel, add the hardware and shipping and you're getting pretty close to the price quoted. I don't know the exchange rate from $US to $Aus though.

I like the folks at www.britishwirewheel.com

That's where I went for hybrid 15X6 60 spoke tubeless wheels for my '55 TF. Great people to deal with and prices are better than Dayton direct.

Check their conversion page for the 3 ways to do wire wheels:

Thank you all Gentlemen,
Those are some seriously desirable wheels. I feel like a kid looking at a racing bike in the shop window! (something I spent a lot of time doing aged 9 years) At least now I know what to ask for. A Dental or toothed hub drive according to that excellent article on the British V8 site. An invaluable source. Maybe a bit too good in so far as activity on this board goes.
The Healey place did not have these in stock, just the Rudge style. I may have to go down to a 5 inch wheel, however I've got $800 worth of apparently indestrucible michelins I don't want to throw away. Mind you, just looking at the two hubs side by side, the toothed hub is inches shorter. I’ll send off an email to Dayton. If I measure the current wheels from the back of the rim to the hub/wheel face they should be able to do the same with one of their wheels and a hub.
Peter.

Have you tried the local market yet ? The MG Centre of Sydney & Superior Spoke Wheels at Greenacre might be of help. There's also Neway wheels in Melbourne. They won't be Dayton , but they're probably half the price

The D480 are listed for MGB.

You can fit Triumph adaptors to an MG - but you need to substitute 7/16" UNF studs for your 1/2" - easy to do. In fact I did that on the Jamaican where I was using stock MGB front hubs. See:

Suggest that you make up an alloy spacer as I did so you needn't cut down the studs.

I used D464 as I wanted more offset and prefer centrelaced style as well, but the D480 are equivalent.
