MG MGB GT V8 Factory Originals Technical - Engine Mount Brackets

Fellow V8ers
While down in Victora last weeks I purchase the engine mounts and brackets to fit my V8 to my chrome bumper car. I got them from MG Workshops in East Bentleigh and there were Six items

2 car to mount brackets
2 rubber mounts
2 engine to mount brackets.

The brackets that go from the engine to mounts look nothing like what I'm used to seeing in photographs of conversion. The bracket did not bolt on to the block useing the two horizontal mounting points but used the most forward one of these and a bolt hole vertially above the forward bolt near there head.

This is not the problem I'm having. The problem is that the holes in the bracket do not line up (12mm out) and the angle of the bracket is also a out.

Does anyone who has used this type of bracket know if I'm doing anything wrong of the bracket U/S.

G'Day Spriggsie,

I know exactly what you are talking about. I too had a set of these brackets and ended up not using them. I found that they mounted the engine a little too high.

I got a pair of brackets from Dave Vale at the V8 Conversion Centre in the UK. These are the brackets that use the two lower holes that are horizontally in line. I found that they mounted the engine lower than the MG Workshop brackets.

These brackets would be pretty easy to make if you are okay at cutting welding and drilling. Alternatively, give Dave a call, he is extremely helpful and his mum makes quite a good coffee if you ever visit his shop.

Speaking of brackets, watch out for the factory items because they are handed but fit on either side. The difference is about 1/2" in the fore and aft position of the engine and if they are on the wrong sides as the rubbers compress the sump sits on the cross-member and wears through. Added to that if you have a thicker anti-roll bar the crankshaft pulley will rub on it inder heavy braking. I won't bother explaining how I know all this. The correct position puts the engine in the rearmost of the two possible positions.

Hi Spriggsie, I bought my engine mounts from MG Workshops Melbourne & had exactly the same experience as PualH. But it all worked out fine in the end.You have to insert some of the eng.mount bolts to the brackets before you attach the the brackets. Hang in there. Barrie E

Gents,
Does any one have a drawing with all the info to make up the brackets that go between the engine and rubber mounts. The style of the brackets that I'm after is used in Roger Williams book in chapter 3 page 25, photo 3/4 (sounds like I'm quoting the bible!)

Spriggsie,

These are the brackets that Dave Vale sells. You can look at his stuff at http://www.mgcars.org.uk/v8conv/v8convs.html
good luck.

Gents,
I have made up a set of brackets from various prictures and looking at other V8s etc. If anyone ever needs a set of brackets I have the drawing to make them up.

What type of mounts do I need to use to make a Rover engine w/HIF-6's on standard Rover intake fit under an aluminum MGC hood?

As above.
