MG MGB GT V8 Factory Originals Technical - fuel injection problems

Now that I am trying to get ready for V82006, the FI is giving me fits. I can drive it for several days, no problems, then, next morning, it won't start. I am getting a trouble cod 48 for the idle ontrol motor, but it starts & runs fine. When no trouble code is displayed, it will not start. Sometimes I can re-boot by killing the battery, then it will start, sometimes it has to be shut down over night to re-start.

Is this a computer going bad? Any help will be appreciated.
Jm Stuart

Sounds erratic at best. I'd try a new computer and see what happens. How is the driveability? Any changes?
Justin

Sounds like you may have a ground problem. Reseat all of the ground wires and check where they are spliced.
Kelly Combes

Drivability remains good.

Checking the grounds sounds like a god idea.

This is a hot wire system, 1990+-.

Sound like deja vu, Justin? FI problems, Townsend....

Hope you get it figured out, Jim. I can help install the carb. ;)
Carl Floyd

Funny what a few years worth of experience will do for you though. =)

I had a bad computer, some bad grounds, and a miswired sensor in Townsend. Since then, I've worked out all the bugs, and am quite happy with fuel injection!

I can help you install fuel injection Carl. You won't regret it. ;-)
Justin

I can help you guys put in the MegaSquirt. You'll like it. Hey Carl, can you tune that carb from the driver's seat? (Maybe I asked too fast, there was this one time....)

I'd SERIOUSLY consider MegaSquirt, but it looks pretty intimidating...
Justin

There ya go, Justin. I can solder it up for ya. I honed my soldering skills with help from the rework ladies while working at Sperry.
Carl Floyd

Justin, after the work you've done on your car? Surely you jest! Heck, I figure even Carl could do it. Anyway you can buy one already soldered up if you want. I occasionally do them myself, just recently did one for my brother. In exchange he bought the kit for the one that's going in my car. We both figured that was a pretty good deal. If you really are interested we should talk at the meet, I can fill you in on the various options.

Actually the solder work does need some familiarity with high reliability soldering techniques and dense spacing, but with the right iron and solder (and a decent magnifying/light) it's pretty straightforward. Steady hands would help but not mandatory.

As for the install, that's detailed but simple enough, and a semi-terminated wiring harness is a very good investment.

checked the grounds, all good, so I called Glenn Towery. He also suggested checking the grounds, asked if the curret supply was sufficient,& we decided that a #10 wire from the battery was enough. Glenn then suggested a relay that was failing intermittingly(is that a word?).

I swapped in a spare Bosch and have not had a problem since. Cross my fingers...

Thanks Glenn & others.
