MG MGB GT V8 Factory Originals Technical - Grand Rapids V8 show, any pics/news yet?

Hi all,

I've been out of town; I thought I might see some of you on the highway, as I drove back from the East Coast on Sunday. but, no. My heart was in Grand Rapids; hopefully, I'll be able to attend next year!

Regards,

Steve

Well, judging by the noise on this BBS, it must have been a mortician's convention. Not!

Kudos to Steve Carrick, Andy, Pete, & Ted for putting on a great V8 meet. It will be hard to top.

There was something for everyone: track time, autocross, tech. sessions, car show, even a great chinese dinner, and plenty of hanging with the V8'ers in the parking lot.

I had a LARGE time in Michigan. Probably the most fun one could have in that state. I don't have pics, yet. I may get them on CD & send them to Larry Embry if he wants to add a 2002 V8 meet to his website.

The unofficial, not affiliated, test & tune track time at Grattan awesome. No silly pace car, four 20 minutes sessions of just us on the track. YEHAW. The vintage racers that were alternating sessions with us were overheard to say "Those guys are going waaay to fast out there!" Yep, we were driving like we were in race cars instead of street cars with street tires & brakes. There were a few spins and some trips thru the grass, but no injuries and no broken cars. Just over-the-top fun!

Jim Stuart, our air conditioning guru, did a very informative tech session on adding AC. Followed by Dan Masters on wiring kits, Ted Lathrop on narrowed diffs (and a tour of his well-equiped shop, Fast Cars), and last but not least our Buick/Rover guru Dan LaGrou on just about everything engine related.

What a great, well-rounded, very organized event.
Carl

I have posted a bunch of pictures on the Newsletter website. You can get them by going to:

http://www.britishv8.org/index2.htm

and clicking on the 2002 Convention link, or you can go directly to the pictures at:

http://www.britishv8.org/2002.htm

There are a LOT of pics, so it takes a looooong time to download. I'll go back later and make improvements, but you guys seemed eager to see pics so I just slapped them on there for right now.
Dan Masters

DAN, Looks like allot of fun!!! What was the final vehicle count??
Larry Embrey

Thanks, Dan. Great pics. Just need more track shots.

Oh, and the weigh-in numbers.
Carl

Thank you
Carl and Dan, the credit goes to Andy, Ted and Matt they did all the work. We all had fun, too bad that Barney was ALL over the track!!!! I'll start tacking track reservations for 2004, starting NOW!!! FIRST COME, FIRST SERVE !!!! The track has commited to us for the entire day IF, we can get enough cars, so lets get our checks out for UNRESTRICTED track time (if you have seat belts and a CURRENT SCCA helmet) COST- $ 100.
US for the day. If we have to settle for a partial it will be less Thanks steve
Steve Carrick

Hi Steve,
Many, many thanks to you and the rest of the organizers for the best meet yet!!!! I will send some pics soon, but am leaving in about an hour for a week in Houston on buisiness. The track time was the most fun I have had in the MG. Sign me up for sure in 2004!! I will try and stay on the track this time!!
I just found out that Nelson's Ledges race course in Northeast Ohio (2 mile sourse) has about 12 "Fun Days" each year where you can go out and blast around the track all day for $100. maybe we should have a spring tune-up session there next year?!
