MG MGB GT V8 Factory Originals Technical - How many factory V8s are there about now

Can any one tell me how many factory V8s are left
Ian Sowersby

Ian,
I have seen several estimates of between 1500 and 1700 cars left, out of 2,591 produced. The MGCC V-8 registry has between 800 and 900 registered at last count, but I don't remember the exact figure and I can't lay my hands on the copy of Safety Fast magazine that reported it.

Here in North America, a friend of mine and I have been collecting registry info on Factory V-8s over here, by our count there are about 20, but not all those are on the road (including mine!).

Hope this helps,
Paul Kile

If any of the factory V8 owners are out there and could help me to find out exactly how many cars are either under renovation or are on the road i would love find out. My car is a 75 and build N0 2019. So if you,ve got a factory MGBGT V8 please let me know.
Is it possible to start a WWW V8 owners club?????
Ian Sowersby

Ian,
just join the MG Car Club and you will find ready access to many factory V8 owners (like myself) through the V8 register of that club. The percentage of V8 owners who are users of the Internet - and this BBS specifically - I reckon is very low, probably less than 10%, so I would not be confident of the success of this line of enquiry. The factory V8s do seem to have a high survival rate, I concur with the 1500 estimate.
Incidentally mine is 2122, close to yours. BTW, what exactly would be the aims and objectives of your proposed 'WWW V8 owners club' ?
David Smith

Mine is 2563. I ask the same question as Dave, over and above what the V8 Register and this BBS offers.

Don,t get me wrong this is just for a personal interest to see how many are left.Would the MG car club have figures of lets say, cars in the USA.I don,t go to many club meetings myself, but when I do,I don,t see many V8s. I agree a V8 cc is a bit pointless but does the V8 Register include our US friends and other export locations, if not why??? It would be nice to see with such a low number of cars made and with the internet being such a good way to find info, lets face it theres four V8s on this page already .

The V8 Registrar, Victor Smith takes e-mails on victor_smith@compuserve.com. The Register records are for all V8 owning members wherever in the world they are, and there are large numbers outside the UK and US.

Then for the US there is the The MG V-8 Newsletter, which also has a world wide view and membership. mgv8news@aol.com

The V8, whether factory GTV8's, RV8, Costello or other conversions have the probably the best and most encompassing Club scene of any MG.

Murray,

How much are you looking for? What sort of condition/history have you got?

Seen a Tahiti Blue for Sale at Hewitts in Manchester for £5995 which is tidy - showing it's age but well priced for a dealer offering (albeit an RB one.

I'm getting closer to the goal of purchase - wearing 'she who must be obeyed' down by constant gibbering on the subject etc.

Cheers

The V8 register's handbook quotes "over 1950 or 70%" of original cars on the register.
Chris

John,
If you e-mail me with your address then I can give you all the details and maybe a photo or two.
Is that OK?
