MG MGB GT V8 Factory Originals Technical - Maica Jamaican Update

The Maica Jamaican project is proceeding with fairly good speed. More images posted at http://www.rhodo.citymax.com/Jamaican.html

We ripped the interior, floorboards, and instrument panel out (the pervious owner was unaccountably taken with yellow shag carpet and fake wood panels) We found that there was nothing remaining of the original MGA flooring behind the seats and that a wooden structure worthy of a boat builder had been substituted.

The old engine is out, a new trans mount has been crafted and installed, and (not shown in the pictures posted) the engine mounts have been completely removed, the rear tubular crossmember has been removed temporarily to allow the trans to sit low enough, and a great whack has been taken out of the front crossmember until we determine exactly how much space the pulley on the Camaro motor will need, after which we will neatly weld in new plates to close the frame again.

The engine is no longer than the MG was, but has different protrusions.

Interesting project Bill. I'm sure you will be very happy with the performance from the V6 in this chassis.
Bill Young

Yes, easy to get just above 200 bhp and with less than 2000 lbs. that should be just about right!
Bill Spohn

you know it's not a bad looking car. i was expecting something a bit bathtub like.
Peter

Looks like a 240Z, but I like the back end on this one better.

I remember those cars from years ago. Always liked them. If it were my car I would install some 245-60-15 rubber (at least) to help fill up those bulbous wheelwells. IMHO Alyn

The wheel wells are designed to accomodate a lot of rubber for the various V8 versions the bodies were used on.

I do not want to run anything too fat and sticky as I do not want to be changing the MG rear axle very often ;-)

I also wish to retain the wire wheels and will be using 5.5" TR-6 rims, so the largest tire I can fit on them will probably be a 205 x 70 x 15, which should work fairly well.

I just think that the wires give a vintage feel to the car, while sticking on wider Panasports or some such would make it look like any other kit car.

Still haven't decided about whether or not to use any badging on it. I could apply an MG badge, but then I also have a spare original Lamborghini front badge, which might get them scratching their heads if I also stuck on a V12 badge on the rear........maybe just best to keep them wondering?
Bill Spohn

Yeah I know how you feel about the wires I have them on my 73 B They give the car that period look. I will never forget seeing a AC Cobra (as they were called in the beginning of the Shelby deal) sitting on a show room floor with BIG Borrani wire wheels Looked so damn hot. It was a small block car with the slab sides. Austin Healy had the same deal I never like the look of a Austin Healy with disc wheels, that was designed to be a wire wheel car. Alyn

I could always run these on the car, but it would instantly double the value of it....

Bill, if you ran those wheels you could probably use the Lambo badge and get away with it. ;-)
