MG MGB GT V8 Factory Originals Technical - motor mounts for 302

I am just starting the fitting process and had a few questions on motor mounts.
I have read that on the crossmember is the prefered position. What I was wondering is why you can not take them off of the frame. It seems to me you could control the height easier.
Any photos showing either positioning would be great. I am open to any method.

Garrett,
You can do it either way. The advantage of going off the frame is that it is possible to use a flat mount bolted vertically and control height with shims but this means attaching a mount to the frame rail which is made of thin material so you have to weld on a rather complex mount structure which you need in order to spread the load. Or it may be possible to attach to the original mounts but they aren't really strong enough for a 302.
The material of the crossmember is much thicker and requires a lot less triangulation, making the mount structure much simpler. A chunk of 1" or 1-1/4" pipe with a couple of gussets, partly flattened at the top end for a bolt tube to be welded on, and then all you have to set is the height. Neither choice is as easy as the established BOP/Rover systems, but it's not that hard either.

Garret,

I will send you some pictures of my 302 conversion.

Garret just a thought, if you use the front crossmember and you want or need to change it then you have to make new mounts. Steve

Pete, how abput sharing with us all here.

Many thanks.

I went K member because it was just plain easier. If you want ot use a stock 302 mount they all drop down to low to make attaching to the framerail a worthwhile choice. I ended up not even using a stock mount at all. Just a steel bar betweenthe bosses on the motor and a block of alum under that. Then a flat mount welded up off the k-member to meet it. There should be a bunch of pictures on the site of the k-member. May 2001 is the page.

Be sure to include a lot of photos, please.
