MG MGB GT V8 Factory Originals Technical - Motor mounts for a 302 engine conversion.

Does anyone have measurements a drawing of how to make these. I have look at many site however none had what I am looking for. I need shape size a picture of what the finished product looks like (I have looked at Larry's site and did not get what I am looking for).
Big Jim

Just make 'em BIG, son. Just make 'em BIG!

Check with Pete Mantell, or Steve Carrick. They've each installed 302's in their MGBs. I believe that Pete used Mercury Comet engine mounts.

Both of these gentlmen have posted at various places on this V8 BBS. Check the British V8 thread for their e-mail addresses.

Do these mounts just bold or weld to the frame then put the engine on them.
Big Jim

You'll have to put the engine in and get it where you want it then fab the mounts from below to match it. There is NO kit, or mounts to just simply drop it in. You have to fab them up yourself, at least for now.

Jim,the actual mounts that bolt to the motor can be any Ford mount that works, the ones I used and I think others as well are from early V8 Falcon/Comet.The old Sealed Power part #'s are 270-2220 and 270-2221.These were current part #'s when I did mine but that was back in '96,not sure if they still are good. They are basically just big square rubber blocks with a stud molded in.I had to trim the drivers side rubber quite a bit for steering rack clearance but it never affected the integrity of the mount. As far as the mount bracket itself goes,it has to be fabricated from individual pieces and welded to the x-member.Or you may want to have Gil send you some pics of his setup,he used a different approach that is probably easier to replicate and is equally as effective. If he has no pics, knowing Gil he'd be happy to crawl under his car, take a bunch of different shots from many difficult angles, drive to a Wal-Mart,wait an hour for development while shopping for Yosemite Sam "back-off" mud flaps and imitation fleece seat covers, put the pics in an envelope and mail them off to you at no charge....
Dale

And Gil's one of the few people in the civilized world who lives more than an hour from the nearest Walmart!
Derek Nicholson

OUCH Dale!! HEH I take it you two know eah other well HEH

GIL - If you get pictures and can get them digital, let me know, I also still need pictures and specs on your car for the website. Let us know what mounts you used also!! I will be doing a new K-member in the next month or so and now is the time to change it, so seeing your setup would be helpfull.
Larry Embrey

must be pick on Gil day !!!
Larry --I emailed you directly about pics.
As I still live in the dark ages and my picture skills rely on etched glass proceedures it will be several months before I can process them.
Whats a Walmart ??
Dale you think VT is behind ---just check Franklin County NY ---LOL.
Biggest excitement around here is cock fighting !
Hope that answers all the questions --guys .

Well GIL,
YOu better get under that beast and start etching then!!! hehe

Just kidding. I know what it is like, I have not touched mine in a few weeks. Could you fill me in on the "donughts" you used for your mounts?? I used the rubber pads for a MGB cross memember in mine before andthining about actually designing that inot the new set-up rather than it being an afterthough.. That SHOULD give me a little vibration damping without letting the motor move much.. thinking a part on each side just like the K-member dos it?? They are easy to get and replace that way I think.. heh

Larry Embrey

larry--the rubber donuuts are about 3/4 in thick about 2-1/2 in diam we got them from Auto Parts from one of their books -Will try to get further info or part # if I can.

SWEET. I replied to your email, car looks good!! You have that Rad pushed forward a bit, I like that air dam!! I thought about similar, but I think my air intake/filter will be down in that reagion, so haven;t done anything yet.

I used the rubber pads from a stock MG crossmember on mine last year as an afterthought, then when I dropped the motor took them out. I plan to add them back in in a sandwich config this year when I re-do everything.

The motor mounts plates can be purchase from PAW (Performance Automoitve wherehouse), the motor mount plates are use to install the 302 on a Ford Ranger, they will work on the MGB (weld them in)use the V6 motor mounts or the motor mounts that are sold with the plates from PAW. Install the engine as far back as possible.
