MG MGB GT V8 Factory Originals Technical - Poly Bushes

I am shortly going to fit a new pair of rear springs and am going to use the Moss reverse spring eye springs part No. MGS40721 rated at 110lb, which will lower my rubber bumper car down to approximately chrome bumper height.

I spoke to Moss re; the blue poly bushes for the spring eyes, and they said the bushes are in two halves which is normal but they don't have the stainless steel insert, I'm not sure this is correct and if anybody has fitted poly bushes I would appreciate your comments.

I used the Moss reverse eye rear springs and the 55# fronts. The new rear comes with a new rubber bushing in it. I left the new bushings in the spring and used the red poly ones on the rear shackle. your ride height looks perfect for a car that going to be used mainly on the road, could you please let me know what the rear measurement is from centre of wheel, to bottom of the chrome strip now you have fitted the reverse spring eye springs.

I have the Moss coil over front suspension so can adjust front ride height once the rear is done.

I was also trying to ascertain whether the rear half poly bushes should have the stainless steel inserts.

I have lowering blocks to get the rear a little lower, but the car rides and drives so nice, I am a little hesitant to tamper with it. I have tube shocks on the back. You are going to find that the rear springs make for a pretty stiff rear suspension. But it is tolerable.

I'm getting a little concerned that the new springs although correcting the ride height will still be very firm. The GT version is rated at 110lb and the roadster at 93lb. I have been working on the premise that the front needs to be fairly stiff and the rear on the soft side and was told that the 110lb springs would be fine, do you know what your spring rate is.

I don't know the spring rate on the reverse eyed leaf. They are sold as rally springs. They are CONSIDERABLY stiffer than the original springs I took off.

My wife conplains about the ride in it. I used to autocross cars so it feels okay to me. I would not want it any stiffer than this. I also have never experienced any spring wrapup (wheel tramp). With the power my V8 puts out, if it was going to do that, it would have manifested itself by now.. I attribute that to the stiff leaf springs on it.

You can always drill new holes in the spring hanger. You'll get an inch at the axle that way.
Use a punch and drill a pilot hole so that the drill doesn't wander.
Don't forget to shorten your bump stops to prevent snap oversteer (and an uncomfortable ride). Either just cut an inch off the rubber, or do it properly and cut away the rubber bumper add on and relocate the bump stop base.

As my existing springs are way past their best, I am going to change them anyway, so that solves the ride height problem but I want to ensure that I end up with the sort of suspension that I'm going to be happy with, ie, the front reasonably firm with good roll resistance which is now done, and the rear softer with well controlled damping to give a good ride/handling compromise.

As always with this subject, you tend to get conflicting comments and peoples perceptions of what is good for them, may differ to others.

Most of the springs currently produced seem to attract adverse comments as to their quality and specification/spring rating, even the Parabolics have come in for criticism as being the wrong ride height and incorrect spring rate.

I think rear springs and dampers must be the most difficult thing to get right on a B and it's not exactly rocket science and it's been incredibly difficult to make a decision on the springs, with all the conflicting information floating about.

Doug Smith of MG Motorsort recommends the reverse spring eye ones for the GT rated at 110lb

I think your are using a Supra G/box, can you let me know which box you are using and what length remote gear lever housing is best for a B with the engine in the stock location. I know I can get the bellhousing and cluth bits from Dellow but the above information would be helpful.
