MG MGB GT V8 Factory Originals Technical - Rear disc calipers

I picked up a set of rear disc brakes the other day at the junkyard, about $50 for everything, rotors, calipers and e-brake cables. They are off a Mitsubishi Eclipse. The calipers have the best design I've seen so far, as there is a good positive mechanism for retracting the pistons, making pad replacement a simple matter. The small piston is a good size for the MGB. They use a solid rotor which has a 5 lug pattern and it is a good bit thicker than the MGB front rotors, however I expect a 4 lug rotor would not be too hard to find or the rotors could be redrilled. My car uses 5 lugs but I'll be using these inboard on an IRS suspension. I just thought I'd pass along the info.

Very useful - could give us a bit more on how they fit to the car (the inboard end)

Thanks

They have 2 bolts that attached to a plate welded to the end of the axle tube. Pretty basic, pretty simple. A plate with the MG backing plate pattern and the holes for the caliper should work fine. My notes showed a .330-.390" thickness for the rotor on the Eclipse but I haven't measured the ones I took off.

The rotors measured right at .400", and appear to be in very good shape, possibly new replacements. I don't have the specs for the MG front rotor close at hand. Diameter of the Eclipse rotor is 10-1/2".

I use Brembo rotor 270mm for front brake MG remachined with custom ally bell and unknown ally two pistons calliper. I have hydraulic handbrake.

Jim,
What kind of IRS are you using for your conversion?
