MG MGB GT V8 Factory Originals Technical - regarding tires.

i was interested by the comments in the previous tire threads. so i created an excel worksheet to find the tire combinations that are closest to the stock rolling diameter. the chart has tires up to 225 width and 18-in wheels. thought i'd share since it was easy enough to export as a webpage.

Is it just me, or are the bottoms of every number chopped off?
Michael Hartwig

works for me. did you try to make the text smaller in your browser?
jeff

Jeff, I also get chopped unmbers no mater what text size it used..

You can also hit my site and download a MS Excel file that will let you enter your tire sizes, axle and tranny ratios and spit out tire diam, width in inches, speed curves, etc..

Sounds like our files would work will well together..
Larry Embrey

Must be because you're using a mac :P

You can probably just go in and edit the html. Set the height=14 to say 20, and the height=24 for the title to 30 or 35. That should do it.

err, I did it for you

cool. hmm. i'd have to crosscheck why it was doing that. i've created tables on my mac before that can be read by a pc. maybe ms excel did it weird. thanks for the redo.
jeff

larry, if you'd like me to send you that excel file, just drop me a line. if it would be helpful to use that file with your others i can just email it to ya. also, i think that i've decided to do a ford 302 as well. but it'll be a while before i start it. but can't hurt to get on your good side now. LOL.
jeff

Jeff,
No worries about the file, I can import straight from your site

On the ford conversion I recommend you look at my site, especially the tips section I am adding.. Ford or Rover, they are about the same amount of work, I think the Ford CAN be cheaper. depending on how you put it together.

Larry Embrey

<<Ford or Rover, they are about the same amount of work,>>

Really? I cannot concur, Larry. Maybe someday, not just yet.

Carl

Aside from the notching of the crossmember, and the headers they are about the same. Both items would normally be farmed out so not any hassle to the owner.. Yes they are 2 big items, but really the ford fits just as easy of easier than the rover.. It is in fact Physically smaller..

But, yeah I guess you are right. I just have no real world experience with cars or machining and was able to drop it in all on my own, so to me it seems like it can't be that hard.. :-P
Larry Embrey

Larry,

I agree that the Ford 302 swap isn't the most difficult, but it isn't yet a bolt-in operation like the Buick/Rover can be.

As for the 302 being smaller than the Buick /Rover externally, it is true. I was at Fast Cars watching Dan Masters measure & compare the two. So what does that get anyone? Nothing. Crossmember has to be notched (okay, oil pickup issue), hood clearance is still close, and holes must be cut in the fender wells. Show me a 302 MGB with block hugger headers. :)
