MG MGB GT V8 Factory Originals Technical - Relative position of badges on Factory V-8 front wing

Here's another obscure one for the Factory V-8 folks out there. I am nearing the time when I will be affixing the badges to the LH front wing, and I have some data (from the V-8 workshop notes and some direct measurements sent by David Smith) that show the positions of the badges relative to the trim strip and the door aperture.

However, looking at as many photos as I can find (both Factory original photos and restored car photos), there is variation between the relative positions of the "V8" badge and the BL logo badge. Some show the bottom edges of the badges at the same level, whereas others show the centerlines of the badges at the same level.

I want to take a poll of Factory V-8 owners to see how your badges are positioned. This will be most helpful if your car has the original paint and badges, or it you know for a fact that the badges were placed in the correct original positions after a respray.

Thanks in advance,

A quick scan through readily available refernces shows 6 cars all with badges with a common centre line

Mine has been repainted but I do not know the originality of the wings or badges, except to say that I have both badges on both sides - and yes, I know that is not original. They have a common centre line, there is a 0.567" gap between the bottom of the trim strip and the top of the Leyland badge, a 1.940" gap between the RH edge of the Leyland badge and the edge of the wing at the centre-line of the badge, and a .608" gap between the LH edge of the Leyland badge and the lower loop of the '8' at their closest point.

Thanks guys, for the input. I will put the badges on a common centerline, and will check the dimensions you gave me, Paul, against some I got from David Smith awhile back (in mm.). Now all I have to do is make sure I get the holes for the trim strips drilled straight!

Cheers,

Sorry Paul, I can't get at the nearside of my V8 to check, as it is 'resting in the corner' prior to having some work done in the new year...but can confirm the measurements I drew up and faxed you before were straight out of the MGCC V8 workshop notes series....

Looked at some old factory photos of MGBGT V8's...some showed the V8 centered but a couple showed it on line with the bottom of the BL badge....photos of UOK935L & TF86 are on line w/bottom; photos of UWL747P & YWL921L are centerline.
