MG MGB GT V8 Factory Originals Technical - Rover 3.9 fuel injection

Hi, this thread is a continuation from one RMW started at the beggining of the month ref the 3.9 having fits of idling too fast. Roger, I don't know if you got the fault sorted or not? but I've just sorted mine which had exactly the same fault, by changing the air flow meter!! I have no idea why AFM would cause intermittant idle faults, anyway my v8 is running better than ever now! at last. Hope this may help anyone else with a similar fault. All I've got to do now is find a replacement AFM as the one I have have just fitted was borrowed off a friends Range Rover! New there are nearly £400. ahhh.

Mike,I had exactly the same problem last week, I managed to buy one on EBAY.....problem solved.

The same guy's selling another one on E bay at the moment.....so get bidding.

I'm told that there is a firm which overhauls them for the trade...If I get the info I will post details.

Good luck

PS

Get your skates on....only 2 hours left & no bids...It's listed under Jaguar bits I think ( but it fits the Rover system)

Damn, too late! I had looked under the Landrover / Rangerover sections on Ebay for an airflow meter, but there were none, never realised Jaguar used the same type!! I'll keep a look out

Cheers

Mike, Anticipating you would not get the message in time..I bid & got it !

When it gets here (probably early next week..the guy's pretty quick) I will test it on the V8, and if it's OK you can have it for what it cost me , plus post.

I will also try to find out about the re-conditioning service.

E mail shown so you can contact me off-board.

Thanks Mike, I am very grateful,

Have e-mailed you..

My problem went away - but I was interested to read about your experience. The AFM gets well and truly cooked so it's hardly a surpise if it is dying slowly - I will watch for details of the refitters.

Good wishes

Maybe a heat shield is the answer, I've wrapped the exhausts, I will check afm temp after a long run .

I think I have a spare AFM of my old RV8 if anybody needs one... just got to find it!
Mike.

Mike Satur!

I'm planning another cross-country trip in the MG this summer...and I know that a little "desert" driving will be needed....ready for another road trip ala 1995 to Tahoe?! (I still have the video!)
