MG MGB GT V8 Factory Originals Technical - Rover fuel injectors

I am looking for replacement injectors for my Rover hot wire system. Unfortuanely, I do not know the rating for the stock Bosch injectors.

In the past, someone had used Ford Mustang injectors, but this was on a highly modified engine, while mine is a mostly stock 4.0. I would be happy to use Ford stuff, but wat to keep the ratings the same.

Anyone have thoughts or suggestions? New Rover parts are out of the question, moneywise.

Jim, I have some extra injectors, if you need some but not a full set. If you need a full set I can loan you a set & you can replace them later. Am leaving wed. so call me 9-12.

Jim, I'd think you could get by with 19lb injectors. If they flow too much you could drop the fuel pressure. They used those on mild 302's and on 4.6's and they seem to be the most common. Or if you could find a set of 17's they might be a little better choice. 15's if you can find them could be a little on the small side and you might have to increase fuel pressure, but that wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing and they might be just right. Should be really close anyway but I have no idea what engine they could have been used in. 2L or smaller 4 cylinder maybe. hth

Glenn- or anyone else-

Do you know what the injectors are rated at? 17 lbs?

Will call you in the A.M.

Have you tried backflowing your injectors? Often this will clean them out. Also, the inlet screens are replaceable. You can find them on ebay. I have even backflowed them with gumout carb cleaner using a little adapter I soldered up out of hardware store brass tubing. Did a real good job. An ice cube relay can be wired as a buzzer to cycle them for cleaning.

Jim,

Hot wire injectors are 195cc min. Nearest injector size 19lb.

More information on the checking flow rate is that it should be 160 to 180cc per min at 2.5 bar pressure and 180 to 200cc per min at 3 bar pressure. The injectors incidentally being the same as many European 2 litre mainstream cars. In Rover terms this included Maestro, Montego and earlier Rover 220 prior to multi nozzle systems for sequential injection. The V8 uses banked injection and single nozzle injectors, at least up to the Pegasus Range Rovers of late 1994 on when the system went to GEMS8.

Thanks for all your replies. A mechanic friend stopped by and after a bit of fiddle with the TPS, the engine cleaned up and ran great for about 20-25 min.

This seemed to eliminate the injectors as the problem. It all sounded so good I decided to take the car off the jack stands and go for a short run. As soon as I made that decision, the engine went into a lean miss, apparently running on only 7 cylinders. Despite that, I did take a short run, but I still have the miss. Engine maintains a smooth idle, no vacuum leaks, no trouble codes on the readout.

The solution will have to wait until next weekend.
