MG MGB GT V8 Factory Originals Technical - Sebring kits by Smith & Deakin

Sorry about my first posting entitled "kin" I hit the send button too early.
Does anyone have any experience with the Sebring kits manufactured by Smith & Deakin in the UK?
Do they manufacture the kits for other suppliers?
With all the information circulating about wings that do not fit, any help will be appreciated.

Richard,

I got my kit from the MGOC in the UK. Don't know who their supplier is but I can pass on info on this kit if you like.

Hi Richard,
I researched heavily before buying my Sebring Kit from MG Motorsports in the UK. Great product, great service and fast delivery to California. http://www.mgmotorsport.com/tuning/mgcr&h.htm
MG Motorsports assured me they made their own moulds, but who knows. The quality is good. They appear to fit OK but I just starting that phase of my conversion so more news to follow.
What I do know is that the MGOC and others buy their kits from company, Honeybourne Mouldings.

These appear to be the ones that the original moulds were taken from an MGC Sebring after the right wing had been damaged in an accident, but I am not sure.

Smith and Deakin are cheap compared to MG Motorsports,

If I wanted a Sebring kit I would only go to MG Motorsport

Thanks guys for the info.

PS: Simon, have you got any more pics of your car since you finished the body?

Richard,

Sure do. I'll do some scanning and send them off to you asap. I had to put project on hold for a couple of months but work as resumed.

Rear fenders are pretty much done except for final sanding and paint. Just got to blend in front spoiler and area around grill.

As for the kit, I think Tony and I had a discussion about the original MGC providing the fenders a while back. The damaged right front would explain some of the fit quality I've been experiencing.

I’ve been contemplating this “wing” conversion for some time now. I like to Sebring look the best but leaning towards using VW bug fenders because their metal. Would someone that has done this with the fiber Sebring kit give me an idea of how sturdy these wings are after completion, is there a lot of flexing, how rigid do these wings seem, can you readily tell they are fiberglass whereas the rest of the shell is metal, and did you use the newer glue that I’ve seen discussed, if so, what is it and where did you get it?

Thanks for any insight,

I did install a set of flares from Huffaker.
I install these flares in 1979 when my GT was an SCCA EP car. The flares lasted all this time I only have a small crack in the rh rear flare. The flares were install with at that time with fiberglass and rivets.
This car has gone thru many transformations and it's back on the street with the same flares in 2003.

I install a set on a friends B using the glue that it's use on the construction of Motor homes and auto panel replacement it's just awsome how easy it was and how litlle fiberglass was used. A lip on the cut fender of about 2 inches and the flare sat flush and the seem fill with fibergalss and finish with acrylic filler, it took longer to cut the fender than the installation of the flare. Strong? yes, does it look like fiberglass? NO, you can only tell with a magnet.

Thanks Bill,

I dodn't mean to hijak your thread Robert but here a few more questions, Bill, you can help me with.
Can you get this glue from an RV dealer, or auto store?
Whose kit did you use?
Did you have "the fitting problems" that I read alot about?
Does the kit come with instuctions?

Lastly, By using a Sebring Kit am I able to run wider wheels with an offset and/or does this mean I can use a wider axale. In short how much more lateral room do these kits afford?

Thanks,
Hal

The glue can be purchase from a auto paint store, that's where I got it, not cheap stuff. They have several kits, it's best to ask the store which kit you should use. I hate to tell you one thing and the store tell you another, it just creates confusion, but the store personnel can recommned the one that will be well suited for your application.
Yes we had fitting problems but nothing that could not be overcome, he got his kit from Moss Motors, just take your time when doing it. We found that living evrything loose was a big help, then made adjustments as needed. My best advice is to do one fender at the time, then forget what you did, and start all over like if it was the first fender.

You will be able to use wider wheels and tires 205X55X15 on Panasports 15X7 that fit a 240/260 Nissan
You may be able to use 225X50X15 on the rear with the same wheel, it all depends on the manufacture of the tire, no all tires are created equal.
As for the axle you may be able to use a 54" but I am not 100% on this, but if you can fit 205X55X15 tires then there is a possibily that a wider axle may work for you.
