MG MGB GT V8 Factory Originals Technical - Speedometer cable

Hello all. I need the speedometer cable, TR7 trans. To '76 MGB gauge , Here in Boise no one makes custom cables. Does anybody sells cables allready made for this swap, I don want to deal with Andy Achauer.
Thankx for your help.

Romney,
Excuse my ignorance, but are there more than one tranny available on a TR7? If so which one are you running, and how long do you need the cable?? (build in a few extra inches for safety..)

I have a place here in Tacoma (Right off end of McChord AFB runway. THey made me a Ford T5 to MGB guage in a couple of minutes. I will check to see if they can fab one up, then let you know.

What do you folks do to get the rubber grommet back into the dash firewall. I can't get the T5 end to go through the opening, so I have to enter from the engine bay side. I can't get my hand in there to make the grommet fit into the bulkhead..

Larry,

I'm assuming that you've got the grommet on the cable assy already and you have to put the speedometer head end through the firewall from the engine side. Can you stuff the grommet all the way through the hole and install from the cockpit side? If not, you may have to split the grommet with a razor blade and install it after the cable is through the firewall by winding it into the hole.

You got it right Wayne. I had thought of that but hated to cut up a grommet, was hoping someone had a trick. I will try getting it all the way through then install from the dash side, if that fail I guess I cut it and just move on.

It always has to be the silly little things.. heh

Larry, If you are checking with your speedo cable fab. shop, perhaps you can check on one for me? It has to be about 56 inches long from a late 1980s Rover 5 speed to a 1972 MGB speedo. Still haven't got my steering sorted but hope to do some work on it this weekend.
Thanks

If you've read the post about using fishing line to put in the rubber seal for a GT windshield, you might be able to do something similar--unless the grommet is too stiff.

Larry, yes there are more than one trans. for the TR7, mine is a 5-Speed same as the Rover SD1. I will messure the length and if you check with your supplier i will be grateful.
Thanks.
Romney.
