MG MGB GT V8 Factory Originals Technical - Starting Down That Road....

Howdy folks,
After several years of looking and waiting, I've finally acquired two of the main pieces for a conversion; a rust-free '77 shell and a complete 215 4-bbl engine. Unfortunately, the 215 came with a goofy little automatic stuck on the back end. I do have access to a buddy's wrecking yard with about every type of T-5 ever made, now I need to find a bell housing to put them together. Is there anything commonly available to do this, or is this piece made of 'unobtainium'? Thanks in advance, and I'm sure I'll be back here with tons of questions as the project starts moving forward.

Hi Ken, I am just a couple of steps ahead of you in my project. I am using a World Class T-5 from an 89 Camaro V8 and I purchased the bellhousing from D&D Fabrications ($250 from memory).

Don't know if this will fit but I am sure someone on this BBS cab confirm one way or the other.

Tony, thanks for the replies, which have also made me realize I'll need a flywheel as well. How hard are they to come by?

The bell housing referenced above will work, but as stated on that ad there is no lower dust cover. I suppose you could make one. I got mine from D&D and needed to make a dust cover, but the bell housing was a more complete bowl shape and the dust cover was a simple flat piece.

Hi Ken
I will also need a flywheel, D&D sell those as well. His web site is http://www.aluminumv8.com

Ken:
I found an original Buick/Olds/Pontiac 3 speed bellhousing cheap and modified it to accept the t-5 bolt pattern using some scrap aluminum blocks, a large diegrinder to shape the blocks, the services of a welder friend and some helicoil inserts.
E-mail me if you wish and I can send a couple of photos.

Ken,
Last I knew, Dan at D&D sold lower dust covers for the original 4 speed bellhousing that were made of fiberglass. The nice thing about the orignal bellhousing is you can change the clutch and more easily access the throwout bearing while the engine is still in the car. I am using one of those like the ebay auction and it fit without any hammering, although I did have to relieve a little under the radio console for the T5.

This is the kind of info I need!! Thanks, guys, and Phil, yes I'd like to see the photos. The plan at this point is to gather all the parts I can find before the actual work begins, due to limited shop space. I don't have the room to store another long term project at the house; the wife would kill me! I need to finish up her '70 4-banger ASAP so I can start on this one full tilt.
