MG MGB GT V8 Factory Originals Technical - Trying to identify what Air Filters I need for SUs

I have a Roadster V8 conversion with a custom manifold/carb adapter (similar setup to a factory V8). The SU carburettors are mounted at the rear of the engine but there is very little room behind them. I have removed the foam filters (if you can call them that) that were just cable-tied around the cut-off horns at the rear of the SU's. They really were doing nothing as the foam filters were just small tubes with holes at either end.....
I have purchased a couple of conversion airbox parts on eBay but neither will fit due to the clearance issues. I am therefore looking at two small K&N-type filters from these people:

But I need to identify which ones I will need. How do I go about identifying what I have and therefore which filters I need.

Thanks

Andy,

The people at Speedograph are very helpful, I think you could use there PF103-104 D shaped air filters I think the HS6 and HIF6 have the same air filter mounting surface (I think) and the D shape would let them be close together.

Thanks for the reply Bob. I assume I would need a left and a right (PF103 & PF104)?. Speedograph list the PF135 for the HIF6?

Still slightly confused.... I will take it along to my local mechanic to see if he can tell me what I should order.

Thanks

Andy,

the HIF6 carb face has more holes than A HS6. I think you could use the PF103 and PF104 if you drilled a few holes in the Air cleaner mounting part of the air cleaner, see if you can find a AUC1283 air inlet gasket
for a HS6 and match it with your HIF6 gasket.

Thanks again for your input. I will look tomorrow and see how many holes there are and maybe you can tell me what I need?

Thanks

The rear of the SU's look like this:

The dimensions aren't quite right but it should give you the right idea.

Andy, look on ebay http://cgi.ebay.com/2-Chrome-Airfilters-for-SU-1-3-4-MGC-TR3-TR3A-TR4A-TR7_W0QQitemZ4583487518QQcategoryZ27383QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

these are the air cleaners we wer talking about they are in the UK and you could ask the seller some questions.

Andy,

I had the same problem and ordered K&N filters with Moss which should be special for the V8 set up.
When i received these, i found out these would not fit as the hole is in the center and because the carburateurs are close to each other, the holes should be out of center. I made new plate from aluminium with holes out of the center. Later i spoke to someone in the K&N business and he told me that K&N steel plates without holes can be bought so one can make the holes in the correct spot. I don't have part nr. but van send you an e-mail with picture if you want.

I contacted Speedograph Richfield who advised me to get a PF103 & PF104 (left & right). They arrived during the week and I fitted them yesterday & this morning. I had to modify the holes as they didn't line up but after a bit of playing around they are now fitted.
