MG MGB GT V8 Factory Originals Technical - V8 Oil/Temp Gauge

Hi Folks

Does anyone know where I could get a dual V8 Oil Pressure / Temp Gauge. That is the one with the lower Oil Pressure scale.

Regards

I bought a new one from Clive Wheatley about 6 years ago. Oil pressure guage goes up to 60 psi.

That's the one.

They are still for sale on Clive's site at just under £120. I think I will wait!!

There were three different ones according to year - first 60 then 100 then 80psi for oil. I got one several years ago from a Welsh company when Clive didn't have them. The V8 ones are different to the 4-cylinder in that the oil needle on the 80psi gauge at least is angled up a bit at rest and not horizontal, and the H end of the temp is red and white cross-hatched. I'm pretty sure the one Clive had at the time were 80psi but didn't have the other features. Leacy has the correct ones shown at £83 http://tinyurl.com/cbo52u. They also have the 60psi gauge at £72 FWIW.

Thanks Paul

The Leacymg site is very comprehensive. I think the 60psi is the one for me but it does have a £30 surcharge.

David,

I bought mine on a spare part marked in the Neatherlands. The oil preure half is scaled to 60psi and water temp is reading up to 100°C. I am not sure where it came from but looks like old Jaguar or Daimler, may be a 40's to 50's Triumph too? I had to change the bezel and have put it into the dash in stead of the electrical temp. gauge (1973 LHD dash).
The feeding pipe for presure fits exactly and the temp. sender capsule is fitted to the JWR inlet by the help of a brass adapter from a plumbers shop.

Hope this helps

I am pleased my gauge only goes to 60 psi, because it only shows a little over 30 psi unless the engine is very cold. (That does not happen here very much lately!)

However the reason I am adding this is that I checked it with a mechanic's master oil pressure gauge and it appears mine reads at least 10psi low.

I know I don't really have an engine oil pressure problem but it would be nice to see some more psi on the instrument to boost my ego!

The surcharge is returnable when you send the faulty gauge back - assuming you have one and it isn't physically mangled.

Only if you have an identical V8 one. I have a std B version. I think I will still buy the reconditioned 60 psi one though.

Well yes it would have to be like for like.
