MG MGB GT V8 Factory Originals Technical - Vauxhall powered MGB GT

Im looking into putting the vauxhall 2.0 16v (xe) engine into my mgb as have weighed up a few pros and cons like weight/power/cost/availability over the k-series and am thinking vauxhall is the way forward.

Im not knocking the k-series in anyway, think its a cool engine, just fancy trying out something different that seems cheaper in the short term.

Has anyone done this and put it on a website or plans on taking there pride and joy to any shows that i maybe able to see it in the flesh?? My google search's are providing me with no such sites, its not that im being lazy (much).

cheers

Chris maybe you should go up to Stonleigh this weekend and ask around it may come up trumps.

Am now registered,

Cheers Cecil, is it an official mgb meet on the events calender so to speek, or is it for all makes and models??

Chris - why not - RNEC students even put a Merlin into a roadcar after WWII - but they quickly ran out of Spitfire parts - most of us stay with long production runs with a MG association even 'tho there is much better kit around - our successors will always be able to get the bits but a well documented GM conversion will still have value !

FWIW

The Stonleigh event is for all MGs so most of the 'big' suppliers and garages etc go there

Chris,

You should speak to Kevin at Dolphin Sports Cars in Ashford, Kent on 01233 646466. When I popped in there a while back he was fitting the 2Litre Vauxhall engine into a B Roadster - and a very tidy job he was doing too!

Good luck,

This was quite popular with the Escort boys, (MK2) So there must be a few people around who have dealt with the engine orientation, coolant hoses etc before.

Sorry I don't recall who, but they must be out there somewhere!!

Done more research, and its also used in the kit car world, so i got to get down to the local corner shop for a copy of which kit or kit car mag.

I was unable to get to stoneleigh at the weekend, how gutted was i, so im going to have to wait till the next mg show.

Did anyone go and see a vauxhall engined mgb by any chance?

I see from terry that a dolphin sports cars are building one, so im going to have to grab the phone and make some calls.

I imagine that the conversion if you use the weber carb setup is as easy if not possibly easier than the k-series conversion, its just how to mount the engine.

Cant wait for this cold weather to go away so i can crack on with the project.
