MG MGB GT V8 Factory Originals Technical - Webber carb for 215

Has anyone had experience with the Webber 4bbl carb for the Rover 215..What is the best manifold and jet sizes for street use..I read somwhere that it is actually ann Edlebrock carb with a Webber sticker!!
It's rated at 5oocfm but i would have thought that 500cfm is too big for 215ci..Any thoughts or experience would be appreciated before i part with my hard earned cash..

John,

Have not put mine on the car yet but when was in the UK got a 500cfm Webber and manifold from RPI. They provided what they say is the correct jet size with the kit. Yes, the 500cfm is probably too big for the 3.5 but it's the smallest they make and yes Edelbrock owns Webber....but to top it off it is actually a reincarnation of a Carter from the U.S.!!

Manifold I selected was the dual port John Wolfe Racing made by Offenhauser. It is lower than the Edelbrock Performer by only about 5mm or so. Part no. for the Offenhauser is 7001 and for the Edelbrock 2198 I seem to remember.

The Edelbrock is a different manifold design in that it is a dual plane I believe.

I went with a Webber as opposed to a holley becaue firstly it came as a kit and secondly I didn't have to change the metering blocks etc.

Hope this helps.

Cheers Stainzy..to the rescue again!

I've read fairly good repots about the Webber over here. The Holley (got one at the moment on a 360 Offy manifold) seems to be out of favour. I thought this was down to old technlogy, you know, the Webber taking advantage of up to date developments and tecniques, but it seems the Webber is just as old...

The Webber i think maybe gives better metering and torque lower down but does not seem to have the availability of jets, secondary springs, etc etc for fine tuning..Or could it be that it's so darned good it just don't need em...

John,
I have been runnibg a 500 Weber/Carter 4 bbl carb on my Rover 3.5 liter engine. I runs very good and is not too big unlike you would think. The manifold has enough restrictions in so it runs very smooth with plenty of power. I tought that Wener took over the Carter company and it shows their W logo even on the castings. I bought mine new from one of the MGB conversion outfits for $210. It's been on the car for 5 years now and have never given any problem.
The engine I bought came from a 1980 Rover SDI that I found in Canada. It was equipped with the federal fuel injection bt I converted to carb for the ease of it. Plan is for next year to have a new type of FI installled.

Hello John,
after trying with a Holley 390 I changed to Edelbrock 5oo. In my opinion much better then the Holley.
I changed the main jets to Edel# 1422 0.83 and keep the stock rods which come with the carb. MG is running very good, and no problems with every day driving.

Thanks all, i think i will take the plunge and invest in a Webber..as all reports suggest it's much better then my present Holley which needs overhauling anyway.

Thomas, what inlet manifold are you using??
