MG MGB GT V8 Factory Originals Technical - Wheels

The summer heat is begining to fade and its just about time to push the MG out of the garage for fall driving. (I'd just fininished my car last spring)

At speed on the freeway, the vibration was very severe. I'm running factory Rostyle wheels, and am very careful to align them best I can on installation, but these efforts aside, the vibration is always there at speeds above about 50MPH.

Is there a source for minilite style wheels in the states? What is experience with 15x7 vs 15x8?

Any other style wheel that works well on the V8 car?
Sources?

Phil, there is nothing inherently wrong with the factory wheels. If you want Minilites or other aftermarket wheels, so be it but no need to hang the justification on faulty originals ! You need to have the wheels and tyres balanced and the steering tracked, by professionals that know what they are doing and have the accurate equipment to do it properly. If the shake is still there, check the track rod ends for wear, also the inner joints where the steering arms connect to the ends of the rack.

Some of the Panasport wheels are really fantastic. Their Racing line look like Minilite repros but they are much, much lighter and they are exquisitely finished. 15x7 or 15x8 might be tough; I have only been able to get 15x6 wheels up there (unless of course you want to flare the fenders, which I did not).

Phil,
I struggled with the same problem for many years. I finally found the problem. One of the Rostyle wheels on the front was out of round.Doesn't need to be much! I changed with a "round" wheel and the problem went away. Later I switched to 15x7 inch rims and it was even a more smooth ride.
Harry, I don't have any problem running 15x7 rims with 215/60/15 Bridgestone tires. No interference problems at all!

As an aside there is a comment on the factory V8 wheels in David Knowles 'MG V8 21 years on' (I think) which as well as exceeding the stress tests the factory applied many times over were also described as being 'round and concentric, which is more than some wheels we have seen'.

Phil:
In answer to your question, Minilites are available in the states. Check out www.minilitewheels.com. I believe they are located in CT and are the only distributor of Minilites in the states.
Good luck,

PHIL,
Could you please email me? I tried to email you, but did not recieve a reply. I would like to know the backspacing on the wheels you are running..

THANKS!
