MG MGB GT V8 Factory Originals Technical - Where to acquire coil for SD1?

I have a 1980 Rover SD1 that I bought recently hoping to use the engine for my MGB convesion. When I first got the car home it ran for short periods then stalled out. By doing a test, I found that the spark was cutting out when the engine was running. I have looked over all the connections that seem related to the ignition but, it still will not start. Now I want to replace the coil but none of the local foriegn auto parts stores can help me. Can anyone tell me where to get a new coil for this 3.5 with electronic ignition?
Dana

If you can't get fixed up Stateside (unlikely), there's a steady trickle of late V8 Rovers through the breaker yards over here. Most of the remaining cars are coming to the end of their days now. A coil or two can be picked up cheaply - no idea how much shipping to USA will be - I guess not much for a coil Air or SurfaceMail. email me if you get desperate.

Dana, most any coil will work! I used to have a Lucas Sports coil on there and now there is an MSD. It's no better or worse; it was on sale. You just need to specify whether you have a regular breaker points setup or electronic ignition. What kind of distributor do you have, and is there an ignition box?

Yes Harry it is electonic. Box mounted on inner fender well reads LUCAS 2PR power resister 73184A

Dana-
Rimmer Brothers over in the UK should have anything along that line. They just recently started carrying stuff for Rovers. They have a website at http://www.rimmerbros.co.uk/

Dana,

Terry Brown at Freckleton Rover Centre has loads of new and second hand V8 bits and he is very helpful. He rebuilt my V8 engine, and is our local (Blackpool)expert.

You could give him a ring him on 01772 635728 or E mail on FRC800@hotmail.co.uk He also has a website at www.f-r-c.co.uk

Good luck
