MG MGB GT V8 Factory Originals Technical - Wrist Pins

A friend of mine is the VP of Roush Racing and he connected me into their machine shop to have my pistons and conrods fit back together. The machine shop went to do it and noticed that my wrist pins are pretty badly worn.

I'm having a really hard time finding replacements! Mine are .875" diameter, and have a wall thickness of I think about .184" and are somewhere around 2.75" long.

Anyone have any suggstions?

If the pins are worn, so are the pistons.

Pins are only sold with pistons and are matched to each piston.

I have to agree with Chris about the wear, but you can get wristt pins at flatlandracing.com.

That's not really what I want to hear... I trust the judgement of the machine shop at Rousch. If they say it'll work ok, I'm going along with it.

Justin,

Wrist pins are hardened steel. How can they be worn and nothing else. Did you have the connecting rods re-bushed?
Carl Floyd

Right, you are going to have a hard time wearing out wrist pins with aluminum pistons. Were they pitted for sitting outside in the rain or something? County might be able to hook you up with new ones if they will sell them separately.
Jake Voelckers

Yes they DO wear - the relatively soft ally picks up tiny bits of iron from the bores which become embedded and act like sandpaper!

Every 18V engine I take apart has wear on the top surface of the pins both sides of the conrod.

As I said before - the pins are matched to the pistons - County & AE DO NOT sell pins separately. Even if you got some, they will wear rapidly unless you replace the pistons.

18V rods are NOT bushed - the pin is a press fit into the rod.

18GB - GH rods are bushed and because the pin is free to rotate, the wear is spread between the pin that is in the bush and that in the piston and also round the entire circumference of the pin - so is much less marked than on the 18V setup.
