MG MGB Technical - +1 15x5.5' Wire wheel for MGB?

Hello,
Today I noticed on the Moss Motors website that part# 455-385 Knockoff Minilite 15x5.5" is listed for both the MGB and TR250. You have to pull up both model online catalogs to compare the part numbers.

So then can I presume that the hubs, splines, and off-sets are the same for both MGBs and TR250s?

If so, then that would mean that an MGB could fit the TR250's 15x5.5" Wire wheels, Moss part# 455-485. Thus +1 sizing a wire wheel?

Can anyone confirm this?
I don't think I'm going to get any sleep until this is answered.

It's been about 10 years since I last posted on these forums. 99% of my time was spent in the Spridget pages. So I know very little of MGBs and Triumphs.

Thank you,
Rotary-MG

The 15" wheel will indeed fit, but you must be careful in selecting the width of the tire that you want to use. Anything wider than 195mm can result in the tires rubbing on the rear outer fender wells. However, this varies from car to car and can be rectified by some minor grinding. RAY

Thanks for that RAY!

This could be an odd trivia question, but are the knock off hubs similar between the various makes and models of LBCs?

I know there was a change in "threads?" per inch from 12 to 8 in '65. But could wire wheels after '65 fit onto the hubs of other makes/models? Ignoring the obvious clearance issue.

It would seem more practical if the manufactures at the time used the same hubs.

In my head I have an imaginary junk yard of old cars where I can trial fit parts from one car to another.

To the best of my knowledge, all of the various Brit cars used the same pattern wire wheel hubs. At least since WW II.

I believe that Jaguar used a slightly larger diameter splined hub with a different number of splines. RAY

They will fit perfectly and look great - see photo.
Tyre size is 185/65x15 and they donīt hit the wheel arch anywhere. But I have to admit that the flange inside the wheel arch my car is flattened to make room for the wheels.
I also had 195/65x15 fitted on 5,5J-wheels on my MGC with unaltered wheel arch flanges and they didnītīrub either.

There were two different spline diameters, most use the (i think) 55mm-splines that you find on all MGs, TRs, Healeys and so on and the bigger splines used by Jaguar (65 mm, if I remember rightly).

The Hubs used on the MG and so on were fitted with either 8TPI threads or with 12TPI-threads. AFAIK all cars since the early 60ies used coarse 8TPI, MGA and very early MGBs had 12 TPI

Rotary MG-
British wire-wheeled cars used splined hubs that were all of a standard design type called the Rudge Spline System, thus their interchangability. I fitted Dayton 15X5.5 wheels onto my MGB with P195/60R15 tires. Technically, these are meant for the MGC. No rubbing on the wheelarches.

Some of the A series used a shorter spline section IIRC, but no one would be wanting to fit a 13" wire wheel to a B series car (even if they fit over the brakes, which they probably wouldn't).

Aston Martin also used the 'small' splines like the MGA/B etc.

I run 15x6" Daytons on my Jamaican/MGA.
