MG MGB Technical - 10' Triumph disc for the MGB flywheel

Just idle curiosity: Anyone personally used the 10 inch Triumph pressure plate on the MGB clutch/flywheel. I recall reading it offers + 1/2" more diameter and a fair percentage increase in frictionable area. Just curious......cheers, Vic

Vic-
I use the clutch driven plate from a TR7. Its splines are identical with those of the original MGB clutch; thus it will fit without modification. Having been designed to be used with a more powerful engine, its greater friction surface area will ensure all of the grip that you will need. Because of its compatibility with the Original Equipment pressure plate, it results in a smooth, light clutch possessing good ‘lockup’ and reduced slipping under severe load conditions without putting increased stress on the clutch throw out (release) bearing and the crankshaft thrust bearings as a high performance clutch does. When used in Original Equipment specification engines they tend to last 140,000 miles, which is considerably better than the 80,000-mile life expectancy of the Original Equipment clutch.

Will this work for Both the MKI and the MKII?
Bruce-C

Yes this will work in ALL the Bs. I have been doing this cluch disc in Bs for 30+ years & I had a car with 200k on the tr7 disc.

I will have to remember the TR-7 clutch plate! Sounds like the B&B OE clutch plate in my GT must be living on borrowed time (70K and counting!).

Hi- Well, good news, as the new B&B in the sc car appears to slip on occassion under wot and wos ( wide open smiles). I'll give the Tr7 a shot. Vic

Thanks Glen

Guess I better clarify terminology. Do you replace the fiber plate and the Pressure plate?
Bruce-C

The disc fills the 8.5" pressure plate.
