MG MGB Technical - 1..2..3.. distributor Revisit
Sorry, was scanning archives and ran across the 123 dizzy thread, unfinished before dropoff in my opinion. Chris, Alexander M, I have paid the 4 yards plus to love and hold one for the 71 splittail, currently crossflowed, Burgess, 1 3/4 SU and a purpose mapped Aldon Stage 2 dizzy. I am about to try the sets of curves supplied to be chosen by the turn of an allen head set screw in the base, 16 offerings, enough to get very close to ideal in my opinion. I will keep yall appraised, and would like to hear from Alexander M on his experience with this great wonder. Vic

Vem, I assume this in not going on your Supercharged "B". Is this correct? From previous posts I have heard the "GB" unit may have better curves than the MGB unit for those of us with Supercharged engines. Would love to hear some follow-up. Frank

It'd be nice if someone could put a car with one of the 1,2,3 distributors on a rolling road to get something other than "seat-of-the-pants" evaluations. Not that they don't count for something. It's just that some of us have less sensitive backsides than others. I think if I was trying to sell these things, I'd pony up the money and pay for the dyno time, IF there's something to be proved!

Proving maximum power would be no problem, but then you can get 'maximum' power with any distributor you like - you just turn it (good old fashioned arm power, much more reliable than electronics). You might be able to compare power/torque curves, but they'll be at full throttle so will not simulate driving. And, of course, 'seat-of-the-pants' evaluation depends entirely on your driving style even if everything else was equal. Neil

My derrydoe is numb from the wallet sliding in and out.....I'm on the dyno with the 77 now and the 123 next week. The sc has the Twist dizzy, special mapped, all in to 31* at 3000 RPM, this based in part on Ray, Am Sam, experience seat of the pants, when John delivered his. I will also try the 123, with it's advanced curve on the crossflow. It is nicely broken into curve sets, with enough choices to get any engine real close I'd say.Frank what is the "GB" unit please? Derek, good point well taken: perhaps I'll bill em, eh? Vic

Vem, If you go to the 123 website, they list a MGB unit as well as a GB (?Great Britian) unit for other British 4 cylinder cars that I am told has a better selection of curves for the supercharged MGB.

Vem, Sorry pal but I don't have a 123 ignition. I was looking into it, but decided to put it off for the reason that I don't feel there's enough evidence out there that proves it's better suited to my engine then the Aldon modified stage 2 dizzy (probably quite similar to yours!). (As I mentioned before, I'm also looking at the MSD 6AL system, because it offers both a rev limiter and multiple spark discharge below 3k rpm). Please keep us posted, I for one am extremely interested! Some comparison with your Aldon unit would be fantastic. Alex

Vic, Where are those dyno numbers from yesterdays run. You are keeping us all in stand still mode. Did you break your 123/133 mark? Looking also for some info on how the smaller pulley worked out on your car and how much boost. Ray
