MG MGB Technical - 17year cee restoration

hi, new to this forum and would like to say hello to all you guys whose posts i have been studying over the last few weeks and i would like to add what a very well infomed bunch you are.Bought this cee roadster in 1989 in california, shipped it home (with a few others lol)before i started stripping her down i got the car up and running so as to give me an idea of what the mechanics of the vehicle were like.
Then we moved house and rebiult and extended that, Now all these years later with more time on my hands have decided to get grips with the cee,so over the coming weeks or months may be looking for advice this is not my first rebiuld but tecnology in the m.g,
world seems to have jumped leaps and bounds since i last dabbled.so will look forward to chatting to you all in the near future and if anyone has photos of original u.s. spec engine bays especialy would be much apreciated.
Regards John.
p.s.appologies for a lenghthy post lol

Hi Jim thank's for the reply, the big decision at the moment is whether to go the concour's route the only thing would be missing air pump and getting the padded dash repaired to a suitable standard i think could be a big problem but i dare say will cross that bridge as i approach it.
John.

Well John, from the looks of that underside it seems you are starting with a nice solid chassis. Suit yourself, of course, but if you go the concour's route, you risk that it may be too nice to to be fun anymore.

Good looking C you have there
Just in case you overlooked it , this forum also runs an MGC section which has a few different people on it as well as some from this B based section
Welcome Willy

Are you planing to keep it lefthand drive?
Dave O'Neill 2

I know someone who built a concourse winning GT. If they want to keep it that way the car is unusable as a practical car!

He said the next one he does he won't worry about originality and build a car that's fun to drive instead.
Simon Jansen

I fully agree with Charley and Simon. I have rebuilt quite a number of MGs and the people who get most use and fun are the ones who have cars built to a high standard but not necessarily dead original and are not fanatical about concours. I suppose it all depends on wether you want a car to drive or one just to polish.
jim soutar

I finished a nut and bolt rebuild of a C last year and allthough some would consider it concours I intend to drive it, use it, not clean it as often as I should and not be too anal about it. If its got wheels then its meant to be driven. I drove 250 to MGC day, parked it up at the overnight hotel, drove it to Haynes museum with fly splats all over it and still won a prize with it and then drove it 250 miles back home too. Bloody brilliant weekend and looking forward to this years MGC day.
Build it how you like and then drive it how you like John, after all, its your car.
Simon.

Hi Guys thanks for all the posts,
Yes have realised posted this post in the wrong section lol And i Tend to agree with what you all say about concours,I think i will build to agood as new if not better but with mods to make it more fun to drive and your right about not been able to use it and i havent the time to become a slave to keeping it in show condition.I could do that with the other Cee rd i have also u.s. spec car when i retire lol.
Cheers John.

Hi Dave,
Keeping the car left hand drive not sure yet depend if i can get a r.h. drive steering rack of course but not to bothered if it stays left hand drive.
Does any one know if the qiuck racks people talk about are exchange or outright purchase cos that could be one way of getting a r.h. drive rack i think.
Cheers John.

Hi Simon,
Just read your post properly good result and i agree with your sentiments entirely may even ship it to cyprus to use if i could get a sensible answer off the customs regards duty but you cant it seems they make it up as they go lol.
cheers John.

And there is so much that can be done to the engine from all accounts, ( always claimed to be too heavy.) to make it the car it should have been rather than a rushed project. Mike
