MG MGB Technical - 32' drive shaft wanted

When I put the OD unit (D-Type)in my 67 GT . I thought I had the correct drive shaft for that OD unit. In getting under the car, I note the grease seal cup has pulled off the threads on the yoke and will not screw back on. In checking, the shaft is not the 32". It is the MK II shaft. Fits and works, but there is not much of the splines in the yolk and that concerns me.

I checked the classified on this site and also on e-bay. None to be had. Thought I would see if anyone might have one to sell prior to taking my old one and having it lengthened.

Bruce - "Thread: 32' drive shaft wanted" Don't you think that would be just a tad too long? ;) Let me take a look at the drive shafts in my collection and see if there is anything there. Cheers - Dave

32" is the correct *fitted* length for a D-type i.e. 3-synch mated to a Salisbury axle. 31.125" mated to a banjo.

Paul:

The subject reads: 32' drive shaft wanted

That's "thirty two foot drive shaft wanted"

David was just commenting on that error.

Bruce - I'm not real sure how to measure the drive shaft. I took it from flange to flange with the front extended all the way and all of mine measure 31.125". Cheers - Dave

Not a typo Dave. It is for my stretch limo MGB (just kidding)

This drive shaft issue is interesting. Here is what I have come up with from the Archives and from Bee Vee's web site.

there are three drive shafts.

30 Inch
31.125 Inch
32 Inch.

According to Bee Vee, 30" was used on the Non OD 3 sync Banjo MGB's. 31.125 on the 3 sync banjo O/D cars, the 3 non O/D Salisbury Cars (I question this) and all 4 sync cars.

32" was onlly sued on the 3 sync O/D Salisbury.

I have attached a drawing that Bee Vee as on the measurements.

Tube measurements are

30" = 20.28125 (9/32)
31.125" = 21.53125 (17/32)
32" = 22.28125 (9/32)

Going to crawl under the GT today and remeasure the shaft. Have the original that came out of the 3 sync non O/D GT and will measure that also.

Ah yes, didn't notice LOL.
