MG MGB Technical - 70 MGB paint codes

I have a 70 MGB which I wish to paint in the original Light Racing Green. How-ever, here in New Zealand ICI don't have the paint codes that I obtained on this site. I wish to obtain the formulae for this colour from ICI so I can get it right. Can anyone help?.

Garth, Have you looked at this article? It has color codes and some cross references.

Garth-
I don't know which code number you found in the archives of this website, but the color for the 1971 model was "New Racing Green", ICI code # 7985.

Garth,

According to Clausager, the 1970 model year cars (both roadster and GT) were Dark British Racing Green (p133). He gives the ICI colour code for that as 9767, also noting it applied for years 1963-70(p136).

He does not list Light British Racing Green. He does, however, mention British Racing Green for 1962-63 (giving ICI cade of 8120), and (New) Racing Green for 1970-71 and for 1975 GT Jubilee Model (giving ICI code of 7985).

Other green colours he gives are Brooklands Green (ICI 4498,FM45,FD 68), Green Mallard (ICI 7925), Limeflower {it was the 60's we have to remember!!} (ICI 7968? nb Clausager's question mark), and Tundra (olive drab) (ICI 9424).

Interestingly, on p129 he mentions that in December 1962 a sixth colour(added to the original 5 colours in which the new MK1s were available) was added, but replaced after only some months by a darker shade known as Dark British Racing Green - I guess the one mentioned above for 1962-63. The export sales department is given responsibility for the change.

Hope this helps.

Perhaps I can clear up the mystery about the Light Racing Green color: It was an MG TC color.

Thanks for the replies Guys. I am pretty sure that the car is New Racing Green as is the 75 anniversary model. I have some Racing green matched to a 63 model & mine is definately lighter. Clifton - the code listed on that site is 7985 as does the list I have.
Steve - I also have some green that was matched to a TC that I restored - It came over from the UK in 1977,& it went back to the UK 2 years later. Was owned by an American R Wilson Wilmer. Mine is lighter than that.

I should clarify my last para above. The 1962-63 sixth colour added was British Racing Green. It was that colour that changed to a darker shade known as Dark British Racing Green. So ICI codes would be 8120 and 9767 respectively.

Hi all,
Finally a Company here has obtained the original paint mixing formulae but find that 2 of the tinters are obsolete so it is of no use. So, it looks like we will have to eye match. Thanks for all the suggestions.
