MG MGB Technical - A/C compressor model number

Need a New A/C compressor for our 79 LE, called and said I wanted a Sanden 508 which I understood was a replacement for the original Sankyo 508. They said which model? as there were many 508s. No markings on my old Compressor, just a sticker which says SD 508 and a serial number. Anybody replaced their A/C compressor, so I make sure I get the right one.

The Sanden 508 is the right one, but the only "real" differences, IIRC, are whether the unit has the connectors coming out the back of the unit or from the top rear. (That is, if you don't count the ones with or without chrome....)

You should be able to contact tech support at either place and explain your plight.

Having said that, I'm a bit surprised that they can't go off your serial number to figure things out....

Thank's Rick, sent out some emails and got a reply back from sales@polarbearinc.com ph 1 800 365 3516 and they are conversant with the system that was used in the later MGB's and have a replacement for my Sankyo 508

Received the replacement a/c compressor for the 79 MGB LE today from Polarbearinc, email and phone as above.
It is a SD 9285 V-DR DG. Joe Citelli owner suggested this one as opposed to the 508 I suggested as it runs smoother and has less vibration, however looks and fits as per the original, with the 2 pulley v drive. They have a tech page also that might be of interest.
Price was $260 and came within 2 days. Joe is one guy that understands the systems that were used in MGB's, and will take the time to talk to you about your needs.
