MG MGB Technical - Air grill

I just received a new Air Grill for the Ol'Ladys 79 MGB.
This is the grill under the windshield above the hood.
It came with 6 clips that the grill pegs slid into. It also comes with a screen.
I know the clips go under the body of the hood but how are they held in place? If the screen was not there I could hold them with a pair of pliers while I pushed the grill on. But with the screen I can not do that

Can anyone explain to me how to mount this PLEASE

Throw the clips away! Hateful things at best, and impossible to get off without breaking the pegs. You cannot put any clips on with the screen. Screen is not original, but good for keeping big leaves out. Pine needles get in regardless. It is good to be able to get the thing off to clean the airbox and drain, else it kills your radio and gets your girlfriend's tootsies wet when the water runs inside the car.

Many cars just have the grille in place (rattling) with no retainers. A good alternative is to stick it down with nonhardening old time caulking compound. The only clippish things worth considering are the plastic sleeve inserts used for some badges, like the BL ones on the fenders, maybe two off - thought about this but never did it, since the caulking is so convenient.

Thanks
That sounded like a good idea so I already did it.

I agree with FRM. I took my grill off to mask neatly around the hole, and did not realise there were clips, I was careful, they came off ok, the first two to disappear down into the box. At present the grll is loosely in place, it must rattle but I cannot hear it above all other noises! The bit of silicone mastic sounds a good idea. Another I had was a thin strip of double sided tape in 4 points and thus stuck down. It is easy to remove later by gentle prying, and the sticky stuff comes off with WD40. Mike

The "plastic sleeves" are called "friction bushes". If you google you will no doubt find a supplier over there.

Originally they were held on with spring clips pushed onto the ends of the pegs from underneath the painted panel, but now plastic sockets are provided which push into the holes from above (same as the badges on the boot for example), then the grille is pushed into that. These can be used with the additional screen. However you need a slightly larger hole for them, not something you want to find out only when you are fitting-out your freshly painted body.
