MG MGB Technical - Anyone fitted a Revotech fan

Just finished adjusting it today. be interested in how others got on with it.

Stan, I have fitted two Revotech fans to my 76 Roadster. The first one was a offset sucking fan and it was mounted behind the radiator. It wasn't really up to the job in my opinion as it took a long time to get the engine temperature down (Interestingly that kit is no longer supplied). The second one I fitted is a larger blowing fan like your own and is much more efficient in cooling the engine.

I also had a fan controller on the original kit I had fail and had to replace it - not cheap! I then fitted a relay and fan override switch so should I have problems again, I can manually control the engine temperature.

I have two fitted to my V8. They are quiet which is one plus point , but not sure how much of an improvement they are on the original V8 twins. (or mgb R/b single).

Removing the original fan gains around 5bhp apparently.

Andy,
Besides the BHP saving, of which there are various opinions as to how much, electric fans only work when they are needed and, unlike engine driven fans, run at full tilt even when at idle!
One concern I have about Revotech concerns the large diameter motor and it's ability to restrict normal airflow. On a 9" fan it's a big proportion of the fan area.

"run at full tilt even when at idle!"

If they are wired and thermostatically controlled correctly, they are supposed to run at full tilt when they are needed, including at idle. Modern cars ditto, except some like BMW have a two-stage fan that only cuts in the higher speed when it really really needs it. Then again, they tend to have engine-driven viscously coupled fans as well.

Hi Guys,I hav in the past fitted Kenlowes however as am sure you know they are no longer involved in the aftermarket.I have never had any issues with Kenlowes.Have looked at prices of Revotech they do seem a little on the expensive side or is it me out of touch?? have noticed on Ebay there are some cheap fans sounds like thet are from China not that I have any issues with products from China if you know what you are getting and if there is any backup.

The cheap stuff looks good but I have had three fail on me in short order, a couple with water ingress and one just died, none lasted more than 18 months. So went down the Revotech road, three years old and still going!

Stan,
I bought a 10" Revetec fan kit for my MGA a few years ago to replace the engine driven fan.
It had beautifully made mounting brackets which fitted perfectly.
By itself, it wasn't totally successful on my MGA and so I gave it to my brother in law to see if it would suit his 77 MGB.

He had suffered overheating problems in traffic and had cracked a cyl head.
So he swapped the tiny 4 blade electric fan on the car for my 10" Revetec and it has worked a treat.
It controls the temperature perfectly.

Thanks for that, I was rather underwhelmed by the difficulty of getting it bolted in place without twisting the housing to the point where the blades fouled the housing. it seems to work OK though.
i couldn't stand the appearance of the Kenlow kit, and the barackets and sensor on the Revotech do look designed.
