MG MGB Technical - Assist with Braided Brake Line

Finishing the rebuild of my front brakes. Went with the Victoria British Goodyear braided lines. I found the nut end of of the fitting is much smaller than the rubber hose. The lock plate no longer holds the nut.

How have others remedied this? A washer?

Bruce Cunha

Something is not right Bruce. Although the new unions on the lines may be more modern, the hole on your pictured bracket looks enlarged? I will have to look at mine, I had no trouble. Mike

Bruce,
Sorry to interupt the thread....sent you a message via facebook relative to my vacuum OD switch....thx, Marc

Thanks Mike

Checked the old hoses and the nut is 9/16. One on the new line is 1/2.

I fitted Goodridge s/s braided a few years ago, they have a similar small nuts - I had to fit washers.

Thanks Brian

I take it you have not had any problems with the hoses loosening?
I think I will use a star washer on both sides.

In looking at the lock plate, I also think I can come up with a pretty close replica of it with a smaller cutout.

My maintenance notes/database has the following entry:

"Locking plate 1G9198 is not compatible with Goodridge brake hoses which were fitted instead of standard rubber hose. Plain washer fitted each side of hose connector bracket."

I've had a look at the hose this morning and the plain washers are fitted without any locking washers or other locking device. The Goodridge kit came with just the nuts, but no washers (except for the copper washer for the end that screws into the caliper). I fitted them in 1995; they still seem to be secure.

So they are not compatible without modification? That's not what I want on my brakes!
