MG MGB Technical - B post captive nuts used on 1967 MGB GT

Can anyone please help me source the captive nuts used in the B posts of early MGB GTs? I've been asking everywhere and have looked through the archives with no luck.

These are the four captive nuts used in each of the B posts of early MGB GTs for the hinge of the quarter window to be attached. Each B post is a box structure and has four rectangular holes, 0.200 x 0.380 inches, in the sheet metal. That's where the captive nuts go. The thread used on these captive nuts is 10-32.

There is a similar captive nu, 10-32, used to retain the safety catch on the bonnet of all MGBs, but the rectangular holes in the safety catch application are larger than the rectangular holes used in the B post. I have these safety catch captive nuts and they certainly fit nicely into the openings they were designed for. That is, slide them in and turn 90 degrees to lock them in place.

Where can I buy captive nuts used in the B post? What is the part number? I've looked in the factory parts book with no luck either.

It might be possible to make the rectangular holes in the B post bigger to accept the safety catch captive nuts. There are issues in going this route.

Not clear on what nut this is. I have a number of misc parts for the early BGT. Think I have an extra set of hinges. Can you take a picture of where this on the Hinge?

Like Paul says but I know them as rivnuts which if you google you will find them
Like a pot rivet gun that swells a threaded tube to jam in the hole just like the bonnet ones
They only do them in metric thread cheap but that won't cause a problem as the bolts are covered by the aluminium shroud.
Other way is to use self taping screws in a different position which will also dither trick

Hello all,

To clarify, te captive nuts I'm looking for go in the B post, not the hinge. 10-32 screws are used through the four holes in the quarter window to thread into the captive nuts that I'm looking for. We are talking about the rear quarter windows to the rear of the passenger doors, not the vent windows on the passenger doors. The B post is only found on the MGB GT. The B post is made of sheet metal into a box shape. The rectangular holes that the captive nuts are pushed into are 0.200 x 0.380 inshes. Basically, the captive nut assembly is pushed in on the long dimension of the regtangular hole, then turned 90 degrees to lock it on the smaller dimension of the he opening (to grip the sheet metal around the opening). This is the same operation as done with the captive nuts for the safety catch on the bonned, but those captive nuts are too big to fit into the B post. So I'm looking for the smaller versions. Nutserts were suggested and I looked them up but they use a bigger hole size. Maybe the MG factory had a batch o custom made captive nuts.

I sure could use help in finding the correct captive nuts for the B posts. Thank you for the input so far.

We are talking about the exact same part and not the door quarter lights
As I say it doesn't matter if the screws are bigger than 10/32 because you are covering them with the aluminium shroud so will never be seen
Just use the bonnet ones with the correct screw to match
They are slotted so you can move the rear quarterlight up or down to stop it catching the body
