MG MGB Technical - Battery Box Liner

I am considering installing the plastic battery box liner offered by Moss, et. al.

From the photos, I could not see where the battery cables enter the liner.

Are there cutouts already provided?

Not in the ones I got

I used a utility knife to cut the holes for the cables in my battery box.

Cut the holes. You'll need to cut vent holes for the battery gases anyway. Utility knife as Kimberly suggested.

Alternatively, there is a Tupperware or other manufacuturer that makes an almost exact fit food container that can fit into an empty battery case, for those that are running with a single battery.

Not sure if it allows for a battery.

Makes for a handy additional storage area, although a bit difficult for quick access.

If I can recall the part number I'll post it for those interested.

Don't do it! Those boxes are intended for twin-six volt cars that have been converted to a single battery, they are for the now empty battery cradle and can be used as 'hidden' storage.

If you use them to hold a battery first you have to cut holes for the cables. Then the whole weight of the battery is carried in a flimsy lip to the box. If you don't drill more holes for the hold-down the battery will bounce about in the box and stand a good chance of shorting out on the bottom if the cover, and if you do cut more holes for the hold-down that rather nullifies the purpose of enclosing the battery and puts even more stress on the lip. Enclosure is a bad idea anyway, as gassing fumes will be trapped inside the box accelerating corrosion, or come in to the cabin (more of an issue with GTs). Batteries contained within the passenger compartment should have a vent to the outside.

Finally water and dirt on top of the battery is hardly a major issue (if it becomes so you would be sitting in it) so the whole exercise is pointless anyway.
