MG MGB Technical - Centre arm rest

No fixing has ever been on the arm rest or centre console since I have owned the roadster (14 years),are they available or maybe I will have to make something up but would be handy if I could see a picture of what it should look like. Thanks .

Why not walnut stain, polish and lacquer that clothes peg. 😁

As I remember it the arm rest still moved if you put your elbow on them so probably best to renew the plastic peg too, "Genuine Rover" here that at least *looks* better than other offerings. - https://rimmerbros.com/Item--i-13H7468

There you go Trevor. It does look like the location of yours has been abused.

They are available as above. I have turned mine through 90 degrees because the front of the arm rest can move from side to side and bend the peg, which eventually breaks off.

Trevor-
The simplest solution is to glue on two strips of Velcro, one on the underside of the armrest, and the other over the hole in the console.

Very good!

To retain some semblance of originality, it is an easy fix.

Lay some masking tape securely over the damaged hole, turn the console upside down, then build up a fibre-glass base underneath the hole. If you do this correctly, you can refit the female fitting exactly where it should be and with some black vinyl upholstery paint you will never know the difference.

I've got the right clip but I cant get it to stay stuck to the armrest.

Perhaps a kitchen cabinet type of magnet.

If the screws are not holding in the hinged armrest piece, it is because the material is just a thin piece of composite fibre board like masonite etc.

Force some fast hardening adhesive like a fibre-glass type resin into the small screw holes. Let it set hard and redrill with a fine drill bit, and then fit your male? part of the catch.
