MG MGB Technical - Crownwheel & Pinion

Can anyone please point me towards the best place to buy a 3.7 Cw/P for an early MGA/MGB banjo style diff-
Also I've heard this ratio was used in some type of commercial vehicle, any clues as to what that might be
Thanks

Willy, it looks like Brown and Gammons have a 3.7 Crown Wheel and Pinion for a banjo axle for both MGB and MGA. Not cheap though at £390 or £325 ex VAT.

Ahh, B&G, I'd forgotten them, Thanks Andy--325ex Vat isn't tooo bad, "If you say it fast enough. I'll give them a call and see what they'll do with freight/import duty.

3.7 sounds a bit tall for a commercial.

Thought so as well Dave, but someone mentioned it so thought I'd ask- maybe some diesel thing-?
William Revit

You going to try beat the MGB LSR William?
Or maybe booked a run at Bonneville?
Or is the plan to fit a big V8 motor?

3.7 is one tall axle ratio!

That's going to reduce performance.

If you want more relaxed high speed touring, suggest that you fit an OD trans instead.

Ha ha Colin, you'll get a laugh, I've been sitting here scratching my head trying to work out what an MGB LSR is--then bingo
What's happening is ,I do some work on a friends road/race MGA, it's an angry little car, He runs the std 15" wheels/tyres on the road with a 3.9 which is fine, but for comp. work we've found it handles and stops heaps better on 14's with sticky lower profile tyres, it's a good package at that but at one circuit it's running out of revs in 3rd up the long hill and at the other circuit it's peaking right out in 4th on the long straight so a 3.7 should fixit Going from 3.9 to 3.7 shouldn't take too much sting out of it, hopefully lap times will improve overall by not having to feather it off
