MG MGB Technical - Distributor Bolt Size Needed

Could someone let me know the proper size for the two distributor bolts - the ones that hold the clamp plate down to the block. One of mine has gone missing and I need to replace it.

I have no gauge to determine the threads on the one bolt I have.

Thanks in advance,

Jeff

In UK terminology, they are 1/4" UNF - I don't know what the US equivalent is, with regards to TPI

Jeff,

I think it will be 1/4" UNF

Jeff. I have a list of basic engine bolt sizes on my website, www.custompistols.com which may be of use to you. As the others have noted, the proper size is 1/4"-28 and you can measure the existing bolt to find one of about the same length. Some of the bolts used on the MG were other than the commonly available lengths used today and, in some cases, a slightly shorter bolt may be required or, if only the longer bolts are available, they may be spaced outwards with washers.
