MG MGB Technical - distributor install

Maybe a simple answer for this but do I coat the shaft of the distributor with a light coat of oil or the end of it with grease or both ?

also should i put an inline fuse for the positive on the coil and if so what amp should i use. thanks DOUG

A coat of oil will be fine, dont forget the O ring, slides in much better with a drop of oil on it. Never use a fuse on the feed side of the coil, the manufacturers did notfit one. It will cause more trouble than its worth.

The factory didn't fuse the fuel pump or OD either, but they really should have one added. A fuse in the ignition shouldn't cause any more problem than a fuse anywhere else, and manufacturers today fuse absolutely everything. There's certainly no point in adding one at the coil, it would need to be where the feed to the coil splits off from other white-circuit components, but that usually means cutting into a wire, and it would only be inches from the coil anyway.

Sorry Paul .I cannot agree with your comment that a fuse in the ignition circuit should not cause more problems. The appalling quality of many of the glass fuses, currently on the market could quite easily cause misfires and/or a complete loss of power at any time.

I did say "any more problem than anywhere else". You don't *need* to use glass fuses, some people prefer to retrofit the modern blade-type, but I've stuck to bog-standard 35amp as used in the fusebox (because there are two spares in there) and they've caused me no problems. YMMV.
