MG MGB Technical - Engine numbers
Anyone know what an 18S engine was fitted to? Thanks colin
Colin Parkinson
Practically anything - it is a 'S'ervice engine fitted at the factory if a replacement engine was required - I guess they had a few "spares" sitting in the factory in case they needed one.

Probably also supplied to dealers for fitting if a fault occurred early in the car's life - I think early USA engines suffered from piston problems - probably read that in Clausager years ago ...

I will confirm the number later, but is 18SV, so service exchange 18V? I will know more when I get inside it!! Colin
Colin Parkinson
Yes it is a service 18V engine.

Learn something every day---I have never seen an 18SV engine number When I first saw your question I thought it was going to be about the 1800S landcrab
William Revit
Clausager indeed, in America, also for the 18SV. Someone on another forum has an 18SGB in a 71 roadster, which by rights would have had an 18GG for a 71 model, or an 18SV for a 72. By their very nature they are going to be rare, probably very few people outside a dealer or the factory saw one.
