MG MGB Technical - Front springs

Would any fellow owners in Australia know any company here that sells lowered front springs? I have a chrome bumper B converted to Rover V8 by previous owner. I'm thinking of putting in a rubber bumper x member to fix clearance issues, have late model steering and x member just need lowered springs. I have read about the bump steer issues, suggestions welcome.

ask the guys at mg workshops in melbourne
they would have springs to suit whatever you intend to do as they have done quite a lot of competition in the things over the years
personally i like em stiff 700-800 pound springs but it depends on what you use the car for
the stiffer the spring the less travel and then bumpsteer is reduced as a result
what are your clearance issues with the original cross member

Hello Willy
Thanks for the reply. Car is my every day driver so dont want it to stiff up front. The car was never converted properly, eg firewall never had the corners cut so motor sits forward Im planning on fixing the problems starting with the cross member. Clearance has always been a problem with the steering shaft and exhaust, the rack has virtually no clearance at sump.

If you are modifying the area, then why not check and sort th bump steer at the same time.
Paul Walbran

That is the plan Paul.

ok
i'd be starting over
pull the engine out and slice the firewall
you only need to do one side and simply cut a bit off that welshce plug boss on the other
getting the engine back a bit makes a big difference to how it all sits
i'd be packing the cross member away from the chassis you only need to fit some plastic spacers about 10mm thick in there with the originals 4 required
what sort of engine mounts have been used
if they are mounted to the body you will have gained all the clearance you need by after packing the x member
if they are nounted on the x member simply pack the mounts to get the clearance you're after
but you really need to get that firewall sorted
700lb springs are fine for the road you'll be happy with them
i ran 700 s and a 7/8 front bar on my daily driver and it was quite acceptable
what gearbox is it running
