MG MGB Technical - Gearbox cross member

Does anyone have a picture or diagram of how the crossmember assembly all goes together. I note that the fittings are not symetrical so what is the correct orientation of the crossmember itself and also the yolk that attaches to the box? Also is there an easy way of assembling it to the gearbox/chassis? I spent most of the afternoon yesterday trying to figure it out and could only get two of the four gearbox bolts in. I checked in the workshop manual and could find no reference to this.

Steve-
Believe Paul Hunt has it all documented on his site. I can't find his bookmark though. "The Pages of Bee and Vee" I think.

I also had an issue of the bracket. Paul's site gives good advice. As suggested (not Paul's suggestion) I bored holes in the crossmember to ease bolting the bracket to the gearbox. it worked a treat - just measure correctly! :)

My gearbox is on the floor in the garage at the moment. I will see if I can take some photos.

Is it 3 or 4 synchro?

I don't know if these help. It's difficult to see much detail due to the mounting brackets getting in the way...and it's all a bit oily.

I'm planning to fit an O/D gearbox, but have left everything in one piece until I come to the point where i install the other 'box.

Thanks Dave for going to the trouble. All fitted back in now. I drilled two holes in the crossmember as referenced in Paul's site. Please note that the lower yolk is also not symetrical. the mounting holes are offset a litle. Got everything bolted up nice then remembered I hadn't connected up the overdrive wires, so had to drop the crossmember again. Oh , don't forget to put a jack under the gearbox when you remove the crossmember bolts!!! Ask me how I know!

Yes Steve, you remember the story of the husband an wife both in the garage, the husband doing as you were doing, a tricky operation under the car. While she was just keeping him company watching a TV program about some old British Kings. He just releases the last gearbox mounting bolt, while she natters on then an image of a well known palace comes up,,, he grunts, she says,' oh, is that Hampton court?', 'No,' he says,' 'I always speak like that'!!!
