MG MGB Technical - gt doors on a roadtser?

hi....
Aside from the window frames but would a pair of gt door fit onto a roadtser or is there any modifications that need to be made ( or is it impossible )?

Thanks, Daryl.
Daryl

please excuse my awful spelling of roadster
Daryl

There's a section at the top trailing edge of the door which is hard to describe but I'll try! On the roadster there's obviously no rear window or back seat, so the top of the door has a bit which sticks up and in to match the rear wing - it's about 1cm square. On the GT the front of the rear side window frame is there, so that section's missing on a GT door. You can convert a roadster door by cutting the section off, but to fit a GT door to a roadster you would have to weld a section on (which is obviously not quite so easy). So - yes you can, but as doors aren't that hard to find you might be better off looking for a roadster one.

Cheers,
Tim

Daryl, I have to disagree with Tim but only in that it is a very easy modification to make and well worth the effort. It's not really worth looking for a roadster door bearing this in mind.

I think i know the bit you mean (I have not got the car here ). Would the door fit regardless of welding that extra bit on as it happens?
Daryl

yes all the doors are interchangable wit welding apart from the early pull handle doors which are diff locks
once you have welded the bit on the back edge of the door your ok
the problem is to do with the inside of the door where the door pull handles and openers are as there are a few veriations between the 1965 and 1980 models
just make sure all the handles are in the same place

What are the advantages to having GT doors on a roadster?
Does the top still fit? -jeremy

Apart from the small modification mentioned the doors are identical so there is no advantage to the GT door on a roadster
Iain MacKintosh

Well, the main advantage is that on sites like ebay gt doors are relatively easy to come by and cheap compared to roadster doors.
