MG MGB Technical - GT hatch question

Can anyone provide a photo of the panels which go on the inside of the GT rear hatch to cover the areas where the badge mounts? I cannnot find these items listed at my various part suppliers and I have no idea about the material or the finish. Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

I have a 1980 GT. The panel is hardboard/MDF covered with vinyl. Black car/black panel in my case.

Clausager indicates it was always black for UK cars after 76, Autumn Leaf Black or Beige for US spec. For a 67 it could be White, Black, Red or Pale Blue according to car colour. Brown&Gammons have them in Black, Red and Blue, AHH7964/5, AHH7966/7, AHH7968/9 http://www.ukmgparts.com/index1.html?o=10813477348453.

I think Anglo Parts in Grubbenvorst (Venlo) have them listed. Just give them a call.

Thanks to all of you for your reactions. My GT will be grateful!

Does anyone know if the colour of those panels always matched the colour of the car? Specifically, my '66 GT is red but has black panels - should these be red?

Cheers,

As I said, it depends on the colour of the rest of the trim, which depends to some extent on the colour of the car. Clausager shows a Tartan Red GT from 65 to 68 as having either red or black seats, liners, mats and carpets, with the other (i.e. black or red respectively) colour piping and door seals. So black isn't wrong, but only the Heritage certificate will show what was originally provided on your car.

Was it based on the main colour of the trim or the piping colour? For example, would black seats with red trim have black panels or red panels?

Neither are "right" for my car as it was white when new!

Thanks,

To put it another way, the seats, liners (panels), mats and carpets would be colour A, the piping colour B (door seals changed to black only in late 65). So it would have been black seats, liners, mats and carpets with red piping, or red seats, liners, mats and carpets with black piping.

Old English White (Snowberry White from Jan 68) used the same combinations.

What colour are your door panels?

The sets that MGOC supply have the tailgate panels matching the door panels.

Sounds like they would be black then. My carpets, door panels and seats are black with red piping; I did wonder if red panels would look odd if they were a slightly different shade of red to the boot though!

Thanks,
