MG MGB Technical - Heater question

I would like to change the heater matrix on my 1963 MGB. Is it possible to lift the heater unit suffiently to get the front plate off and change the matrix from the engine compartment, or must everything be dismantled?

Tore; I have removed the front heater plate with the heater in place, I had to bend the plate froward to clear the matrix hose nipples. After straightening the front plate I cannot see where it was bent. I'm not sure how far you can lift the heater with the control cable attached. If you you remove the control cable at the control you may be able to lift it enough.

I have offered a discount core replacement to my costumers who understand the pluses and minuses of what I do.
I slice the case cover just above the shelf/mounting surface, the case cover is then removed giving access to the core for removal and replacement/cleaning, before I clip the case cover back in place I attach an overlapping lip on the cut edge to hold some non-harding slealer. It is possible to bend it back but never worked really well for me and if you have to go back in it gets ugly fast Ric

Tore, I discovered that my heater was defroting poorly becuse the tubes that connect the demister outlets on the bulkhead to the heater flap had worked loose and didn't align properly letting the hot air escape. It might be worth a look by taking of the panel behind the radio console to have a look, but be aware it's fiddly to get back on.
