MG MGB Technical - Hood(top),interior kit

I recently purchased a kit from Moss that had carpet, seat covers, panels and hood included. I'm installing the top now. There is not enough material to reach under the header rail screws. Is this normal? I did the stretch in the sun thing and made sure the frame bows were located correctly. I glued the fabric to the rail, and I pulled it loose before the glue dried waiting advise. BTW, This wasen't the deluxe kit, but for the cost, I expected better panels and carpet! Thanks for your help.

there should be heaps, so that you have to cut off some excess.
1- locate roof tabs onto he front piece, under the 2 (one on each end) plastic blocks so that the side window gutters locate in the indentations either end of the front piece.
you have 2 sets of tabs at either end. The Sown/finished tabs are for the button clips. he rougher tabs go under the plastic blocks.
2-Put the top on the car (The tabs will keep the roof in place) then pull the center tight down the front of the windscreen and mark the front edge of the front piece. Piece of chalk will do.
3- Take the roof off the car and glue the front piece down about 5mm inside the line you drew, so that the roof is taught.
4- reattach the front rubber seal track,
5- try for fit and cut off excess of material.

I got the tabs in place and the snaps done. I also thought there should be enough material that I would have to trim off some excess, but the front edge of fabric folds under the front header lip but not far enough to be secured by the screws or the strip that holds the rubber seal. I put one on another car about 10 years ago and had to trim off a lot. I thought something must have changed since then in the amount of fabric. Thanks

Glenn, I have not fitted a new roof but have had fun buying one with frame. There are 3 different roof frames with different size hoods. Pack away and 2 foldaways. Could you have a missmatch?

Sounds like the typical cr*p Moss parts we are well used to in the uk.

Give them a wide berth......there are plenty other suppliers.

Speaking of hoods (tops), my 79 B has a grey frame (scissor type?) which somehow got bent and does not fit the contour of the windshield frame anymore. After much ado, I feel it is time to replace the frame.

Knowing there are several variants of the MGB soft top frame, the question is which frame would be the best replacement. Yes I do realize the soft top itself will have to be replaced as well.

The easier the operational aspect the better.

Any thoughts and experience will be appreciated.

Thanx in Advance

Cheers

Gary unless it has been repainted the top frame you have is the early style frame and imho not the best type nor original for your car unles its a pack-away and then its personal choice, for a fold up it should be black. Ric

Gary,
I swapped my gray fold down on my 69 for the later black which I think they changed in 72...the black frame is much easier to use...

Thanx for the advice. Yes the grey frame is quite an effort to manipulate. Do either of you know who may have a black frame for sale at a reasonable price??

Quite frankly, I'm concerned about dropping the top on my car due to the wrestling match I had to get it in place presently.

Again, thanx in advance

cheers

The grey frame top is a different shape to the black scissor top.
You can alter the grey frame top to fold back. On my previous MGB I did this. Just cut off some metal bar to go into the slots behind the doors. I put a single bolt each side to act as a hinge. A couple of lengths of short cord from the frame to the front armature helped lift it all into place.
I could have just cut of the ends of the frame and used those, rather than going and buying some more metal, but I did not want to alter the frame for good.

It might be time for a new top, in which case
