MG MGB Technical - HS2 float chambers
Are the float chambers on SU carbs as fitted to MGB engines supposed to be slightly mobile?

I believe at least some of the SUs mount the float through a rubber grommet, which means they are free to move a bit. You might see if you can find an exploded view of your carbs. You can likely find one on a parts supplier's site or maybe on Burlen's site. Charley

As Charley says there’s a rubber mount to insulate the float bowl from vibration, there should be a bit of movement. If you’re looking to replace them make sure you get the correct ones as they’re used to set the angle of the bowl. Bob

Thanks for that, have a little movement so will leave for the time being as it does not seem to be doing any harm.

I replaced my rubber grommets with new SU ones a couple of years ago. There is some movement. It really shouldn't affect float level. The way the system is designed the bolt tightens fast before the grommet is crushed. A recent inspection when I installed new float cover assemblies showed the grommets to still be in good condition.

MGBs do not use HS2 carbs.

True, the originally poster probably meant HS4.
