I'll bet that the rain water is leaking under the windscreen washer jet assembly and dripping onto your CD. It's just my guess as
it has happened to me.

Hi John, I had the same problem, and found that the drain pipe from the air intake was clogged with leaf matter etc. The pipe has a rubber'ball' at it's end with a slit to allow water to drain, but over time it goes hard and clogs. I cut the 'ball' off, cleared the pipe and that sorted it. The pipe can be seen from drivers side, underneath, just behind engine/gearbox joint.

Not strange, quite common. The most common is the air-box drain-tube Paul Sorenson mentions, and given the exact symptoms you describe I would guess this is it. It just needs rodding-out and flushing through, which can be done from above. See http://www.mgb-stuff.org.uk/wn_heaterframe.htm and click on 'Air Box' to see how to find the hole. The bulb prevents fumes from the engine compartment being drawn into the heater and hence the cabin - more of an issue with GTs probably than roadsters.

Otherwise either washer jet or wiper box shaft can cause leaks around the centre of the cabin, and pedal-box seals/screws or blanks at the outer sides of the footwells.

thanks guy if this rain ever stop i'll go and have a look only thing is the previous owner plae mesh under the vent. the joys of the wonderful mgb.

No need to remove the mesh under the vent.

The rubber bulb is located underneath the car in the transmission tunnel by the bellhousing.

You can also rod out the drain tube from there.

If mesh is fitted then rodding from below will be easier unless the original grill has simply been dropped into the holes in the scuttle panel. Even if secured with the later plastic sockets it is still quite easy to pull the grille up. If rodding from below don't do an Oliver Hardy and have your head underneath it at the time. A sleeve full of mucky water is bad enough but you definitely don't want it in your face.
