MG MGB Technical - Metal pipe... a conundrum!

Hi all, can anyone help? I have a small issue with the metal water return pipe that runs between the Heater Box (on the bulkhead) and the radiator pipe? I have a 1976 MGB GT and after fitting a new Alloy rocker box and chrome filler cap I discovered that when reconnecting this metal pipe it was fouling the filler cap to the point that I had to put rubber spacers in below the bracket (that connects the pipe to the rocker box nuts) to lift it above the cap but even when tightened, the pipe is still fouling the filler cap and to take the cap off, I'd have to remove the pipe each time! Any suggestions? Thanks a lot.

Martin.

I didn't bother with the metal pipe since it fouled the alloy rocker cover I have to. I just used a suitable length of rubber hose (oil hose from memory?) and a small brass coupler to join it to the radiator hose.

Thannks very much for the help. I'll have a look into that and see if I can find a piece of pipe man enough for the job.

I don't have a picture handy but I ran it along the side of the rocker cover and I think cable tied it parallel to the breather pipe that runs to the carbs just to keep it tidy.

I'm sure I've seen pictures in which that pipe has been replaced by a length of ordinary copper water pipe. If so then it could be bentto any shape you need.

Hi Martin;
I used 1/2" rigid copper pipe with an elbow into rad hose and ran it under the carbs strait back, then with the rubber hose rotated down, to the heater box. You can even polish or tin it. Works and looks good. I can send a photo if you like. Barc

Copper pipe would have been my other choice but I was too lazy to make one up :)

Hi Barc

A photo would be good if you could upload one? Many thanks for all of your feedback and advice.

Hi Martin;
Here is one photo and I'll send the other end if this works. Barc
